The Client:
Our client is a global mining and natural resources organization looking for a Senior Analyst, Project Finance to join their team in Toronto. The company operates across multiple jurisdictions and oversees a diverse portfolio of large-scale capital projects, from early-stage development to active operations and site restarts. This role supports financial analysis and project accounting for complex, multi-phase initiatives that contribute to long-term operational growth.
What you will achieve in this role:
- Support the month-end close by preparing journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal standards.
- Work alongside project and finance leadership to confirm the integrity of project financial data reflected in ongoing reports.
- Contribute to the development, documentation, and execution of internal control procedures related to project accounting, ensuring compliance with audit and governance requirements.
- Assist in building quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, and long-term financial plans in collaboration with cross-functional project teams (planning, engineering, construction, and operations).
- Act as a key point of contact for site and project teams on all matters related to financial planning and projections.
- Coordinate timelines for forecasting and budgeting cycles, ensuring accountability and adherence to schedules.
- Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance forecasting accuracy and efficiency.
- Partner with cost control and planning functions to compile financial and operational metrics used in project status updates.
- Analyze project financial performance and purchasing activity, highlighting variances and trends that impact progress or cost outcomes.
- Work to enhance reporting quality and automation through improved data visualization and analytics tools, translating complex information into actionable insights for decision-making.
What you must bring to this role:
- University degree in accounting, finance, business or a related discipline.
- Professional designation (CPA or equivalent) strongly preferred.
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in project accounting, forecasting and financial modelling for large capital programs or operating sites.
- Demonstrated competence building and maintaining detailed financial models and rolling forecasts, strong Excel modelling skills.
- Comfortable working with project teams and technical stakeholders to collect and validate financial and operational data.
- Proven ability to run month-end activities including journal entries, accruals and reconciliations with attention to accuracy and controls.
- Experience with enterprise financial systems and planning tools and an appetite to learn new platforms.
- Strong communication skills: able to present financial findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences and prepare executive-ready materials.
- Self-starter who manages competing priorities, meets deadlines and improves processes without heavy oversight.
