Role description:
We are seeking a seasoned
Senior Mechanical Engineer
with over 15 years of experience in building mechanical engineering. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in HVAC, plumbing & drainage, and fire protection systems, along with a strong working knowledge of process engineering systems such as compressed air and fueling systems. In addition, in-depth familiarity with Ontario building code, National building code, ASHRAE, and NFPA standards is required. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading and overseeing complex mechanical engineering projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.

Role accountabilities:

  • Oversee and manage the mechanical engineering team
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and lead the design and implementation of mechanical and process systems for building projects
  • Coordinate with architectural team and other engineering disciplines, and actively participate in project planning and budgeting
  • Design and engineer building-related systems, including HVAC, process ventilation, hydronics, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, controls and building automation systems
  • Engineer industrial systems such as compressed air, lubrication, and fueling systems, as well as service connections for machine installations
  • Conceptualize and prepare mechanical layouts and express design intent through concept drawings or sketches
  • Analyze heating and cooling loads using computerized methods
  • Develop and write engineering study reports
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards during design development, and coordinate with the energy analysis team for compliance with energy standards
  • Take responsibility for the production of construction documents and construction administration for projects, and review and approve technical documentation
  • Conduct quality assurance checks, foster innovation, and drive continuous improvement within the engineering team
  • Develop man-hours for proposal estimates, deliver technical presentations to clients, and expand business with current and new clients
  • Coordinate staffing needs for projects and provide technical training and education to staff
  • Engage with engineering societies

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Possess over 15 years of experience in mechanical design for industrial and transit facilities, with a strong background in automotive facilities being an asset
  • Hold a professional engineering license (P.Eng.) and have a comprehensive understanding of AutoCAD MEP, MicroStation, Revit, 3D software, and related tools
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills for effective internal and client interactions
  • Exhibit the ability to organize and manage multiple project assignments
  • Have the aptitude to provide leadership to teams of engineers and designers on projects
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship
  • Show proven experience in collaborating with clients, contractors, and other consultants
  • Possess an excellent understanding of the Alberta Building Code, Fire Code, Plumbing Code, NFPA, ASHRAE standards
  • Familiar with TSSA Fuel & Pressure vessel codes, and industrial ventilation standards, among other relevant industrial standards
