Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and versatile SAP Manufacturing Business Analyst to join our SAP S/4HANA greenfield transformation program. The Business Analyst will serve as a critical link between manufacturing operations and the SAP implementation team, ensuring that industry-specific requirements, compliance needs, and best practices are embedded into the new ERP solution. The Business Analyst will collaborate across multiple business functions, including production, quality, supply chain, and compliance to guide design decisions, validate processes, and support adoption in a food manufacturing environment. This role will oversee SAP operations in SAP after Project Go Live.
Key Responsibilities
Business Process Expertise
- Provide end-to-end process knowledge across food manufacturing, including production planning, shop floor operations, quality management, supply chain, and compliance.
- Translate business needs into SAP S/4HANA requirements, ensuring processes are aligned with food industry standards.
- Participate in fit-to-standard workshops, supporting the identification of gaps and assessing the impact of required changes.
Design & Validation
- Collaborate with SAP functional and technical consultants to design processes that reflect best practices in food manufacturing.
- Ensure SAP S/4HANA solution design supports regulatory compliance (e.g., CFIA, FDA, HACCP, traceability, allergen control).
- Validate design configurations and participate in solution walkthroughs, ensuring accuracy and practicality.
Testing & Deployment
- Support creation of test cases for manufacturing, quality, and compliance scenarios.
- Actively participate in UAT (User Acceptance Testing) and validate that system outputs meet real-world manufacturing requirements.
- Provide input into cutover and go-live readiness for manufacturing processes.
Change Management & Training
- Act as a knowledge bridge for business users, explaining SAP capabilities in plain language.
- Provide input into training materials and SOP updates, ensuring they are practical for food manufacturing teams.
- Act as a floor-level advocate, helping employees adopt and adapt to the new system.
- Support hypercare activities by validating production issues and escalating system-related defects.
- Provide feedback for continuous improvement post–go-live, ensuring ongoing alignment with manufacturing needs.
Manage Day to Day Operations in SAP
- Manage day-to-day operations in SAP, ensuring smooth system functionality and timely issue resolution.
- Ensure compliance with SAP standards and company policies across all processes.
- Act as the primary point of contact for SAP-related issues that cannot be resolved at the site level by Super Users.
- Monitor and manage KPI reporting within SAP, ensuring data accuracy across all interfacing tools for metrics such as efficiency, waste, overpack, and other key performance indicators.
- Maintain and update written procedures related to SAP processes and ensure proper documentation.
- Provide training and support to operations teams on SAP functionalities and best practices.
The Recipe For Success
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field
Experience participating in ERP or MES implementation projects; SAP S/4HANA experience preferred.
Foundational Knowledge
ERP Systems: Deep knowledge of various ERP platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) and their specific modules, database structures, and integration capabilities is essential. Certifications from major vendors can validate this expertise.
Manufacturing Processes: A comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing lifecycle is crucial. This includes shop floor control, materials requirements planning (MRP), inventory control, supply chain management, quality assurance, and production scheduling. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement methodologies is a plus.
Business Operations: Consultants must be familiar with core business functions like finance, accounting, human resources, and sales to ensure the ERP system seamlessly integrates all departments.
Technical Skills
- System Analysis & Design: The ability to analyze a company's current systems and business processes, identify pain points, and design a future-state solution within the ERP framework.
- Configuration & Customization: Expertise in configuring the ERP software to meet specific business needs. This may involve tailoring workflows, user roles, and system settings.
- Data Migration & Integration: Skill in migrating large amounts of data from legacy systems to the new ERP and ensuring the ERP integrates smoothly with other existing software and machinery on the factory floor.
- Troubleshooting: The ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues that arise during implementation and post-go-live
Project Management & Soft Skills
- Project Management: Strong project management skills, including planning, resource allocation, risk management, and timeline management, are critical for keeping the implementation on track and on budget. Methodologies like Agile or Waterfall are often used.
- Change Management: ERP implementations can be disruptive. A consultant needs to be adept at managing organizational change by preparing and supporting employees through the transition, minimizing resistance, and fostering user adoption.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication is vital for bridging the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders. This involves active listening, translating technical jargon into understandable terms, and conducting effective training sessions for end-users.
- Problem-Solving: The ability to identify and solve complex problems, from technical glitches to business process inefficiencies, is at the core of a consultant's role.
- Analytical Skills: Consultants need to analyze data and processes to pinpoint opportunities for improvement and measure the success and ROI of the ERP implementation.
