Reporting to the Senior Manager of Enterprise Data Governance, you will help shape and execute our enterprise-wide data governance strategy. Working with partners, IT teams, data stewards and owners, you will collaborate with teams to ensure data is accessible, secure, reliable, and being treated as a strategic asset. You will develop and implement a Data Governance roadmap and help provide guidance, coordination, and best practices to help teams manage and use data.

As part of this role, you will help foster a culture of data-driven decision-making by providing data advisory and governance expertise to projects and the build and implement the data operating model, ensuring that data is treated as a corporate asset. You will also help implement data governance tools and technologies, helping teams make informed decisions with accurate, reliable data. Additionally, you will work with leadership to assess evolving data needs, ensuring governance strategies remain adaptable to business growth and regulatory changes. Through training and engagement, you will empower teams to take ownership of data governance practices, making data a valuable asset across the organization.

About The Role

  • Help develop and implement a comprehensive data governance framework focused on data quality, privacy, and security.
  • Establish and maintain data governance policies, guidelines, and procedures aligned with business and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
  • Define and implement data governance strategy and roadmap
  • Define, monitor, and enforce data quality standards, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and completeness across systems.
  • Manage operational workflows, including data queues, intakes, and access requests.
  • Develop playbooks and SOPs to guide data stewards and promote consistent practices.
  • Collaborate with IT and security teams to implement data security and privacy measures.
  • Support teams in resolving data issues, improving data reliability for decision-making.
  • Build and nurture a community of data stewards across the enterprise to champion governance practices.
  • Facilitate governance forums such as the Data Governance Council meetings and Data Working Groups.
  • Work closely with business units, IT, and compliance teams to align data governance with business needs.
  • Assist in conducting training programs to promote data stewardship and governance best practices.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and senior stakeholders while managing multiple deliverables concurrently.
  • Help promote the LCBO's BI capability by ensuring high-quality, accessible data for reporting.
  • Manage and collaborate with analysts, providing direction, feedback and mentorship to support their growth.

About You

  • Undergraduate university degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • 2-4 years in data governance, data management, compliance, or related fields.
  • Direct experience with data governance frameworks, policies, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, SOX).
  • 5+ years building and leading teams data governance, data management, compliance, or related fields.
  • Progressive experience in data management, data governance, process improvement, or analytics working with multi-functional / matrix project teams.
  • Ability to translate technical data governance concepts into business-friendly language.
  • Experience in process improvement and implementing structured governance workflows.
  • Ability to influence and train data stewards to adopt governance best practices.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, including data stewardship, data ownership, and data classification.
  • Familiarity with SQL, data warehousing, and data lakes to support data governance efforts.
  • Knowledge of data privacy laws and their implications for data governance.
  • Ability to interpret and enforce policies related to data access, security, and compliance.
  • Experience in data quality assessment and remediation strategies.
