THE OPPORTUNITY
The Metals Company (Nasdaq: TMC) is developing the world's largest estimated undeveloped seabed resource of base metals, including the #1 and #2 largest undeveloped nickel projects globally. TMC's resource in the Clarion Clipperton Zone contains significant nickel, copper, cobalt, and manganese, supporting long-term supply needs. The company is advancing toward commercial operations, supported by strategic partners and recent economic studies showing a net present value of $23.6 billion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
- Develop and maintain detailed financial models for mid- to long-term planning, leveraging AI tools.
- Collaborate with the Project Cost Controller to validate project assumptions.
- Conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses for investment decisions.
- Prepare multi-year financial reports (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow, EBITDA) for leadership.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
AI-Enabled Finance Transformation
- Identify and implement AI tools to improve efficiency and accuracy in finance processes.
- Drive automation in record keeping, reconciliations, expense management, and reporting.
- Ensure process improvements align with SOX controls.
- Partner with technology providers and internal teams to integrate AI solutions.
Strategic Business Partnering
- Work with department heads to align financial planning with operational priorities.
- Provide insights on cost optimization, capital allocation, and investments.
- Communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Governance & Process Improvement
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and external reporting requirements.
- Strengthen internal controls and drive continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with the CFO, CAO, and department heads.
- Prepare materials for the Audit Committee, Board, and external stakeholders.
- Foster a culture of integrity, innovation, and continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA or CFA preferred.
- 5–7 years' experience in FP&A, investment banking, or corporate finance in a public company.
- Expertise in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and reporting.
- Experience with major project evaluations (ideally feasibility studies).
- Exposure to digital finance transformation and AI-assisted solutions.
- Experience in metals, mining, or energy sectors preferred.
TECHNICAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint; experience with ERP and financial planning tools.
- Familiarity with data analytics platforms and AI applications in finance.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Proven success working independently and as part of a team.
