Samaritan's Purse Canada (SPC) is excited to announce an incredible opportunity for a dedicated Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Specialist to join our Programs and Projects Department (P&PD)

As the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and effective delivery of essential pharmaceutical products to our field teams and partner organizations. Working closely with our International Health Unit and within the broader Disaster Response Team, you will be responsible for all aspects of pharmaceutical supply chain management – encompassing sourcing, inventory management, regulatory compliance, and the efficient deployment of medical supplies to our field programs. This includes monitoring inventory levels, analyzing supply needs during emergency responses, and contributing to the development of a robust and reliable global pharmaceutical supply chain. As an integral member of the team, this role will help SPC carry out its mission and objectives through participation in daily prayer ministry.

The successful candidate will fulfill a full-time permanent position in the Calgary head office. This position includes benefits of life insurance, medical/dental and short-term/long-term disability, RRSP contributions after one year of employment, and 15 vacation days per year to start.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Regulatory & Quality Assurance

  • Support and maintain compliance with Health Canada requirements, including the Drug Establishment License (DEL), regulatory documentation, audits, and inspections.
  • Lead pharmaceutical quality assurance activities, including the development and maintenance of SOPs related to storage, cold chain management, documentation, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliant management of controlled drugs, including secure storage, documentation, transport, chain-of-custody, and disposal.

Pharmaceutical Supply Chain & Operations

  • Manage pharmaceutical inventory, including ordering, tracking, expiry monitoring, rotation, reconciliation, and cold chain oversight.
  • Work closely with Medical Supply Chain, pharmacists, and Medical Operations teams to safely integrate pharmaceuticals into packing, transport, and deployment workflows.
  • Support pharmaceutical staging, packing, load-out, deployment handoff, and post-deployment reset to ensure operational readiness.
  • Monitor pharmaceutical lifecycle risks such as expiry, degradation, obsolescence, and supply vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, transport, and disposal of pharmaceuticals across all operational phases.

Import, Export & Deployment Support

  • Maintain awareness of pharmaceutical import/export regulations and collaborate with logistics and legal teams to support compliant international movement of products.
  • Prepare or support export documentation for pharmaceutical and related medical shipments.
  • Support pharmaceutical configuration within Emergency Field Hospital (EFH) modules in alignment with clinical protocols and formulary standards.

International & Disaster Response Support

  • Serve as the primary pharmacy point of contact for assigned Country Offices, providing guidance on pharmaceutical usage, inventory management, regulatory compliance, deployment preparation, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide training and technical support to Country Office staff on pharmaceutical quality, safe handling, storage, and compliant workflows.
  • Support global disaster response activities and as required, serve on the Incident Management Team (IMT) or Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) in a pharmacy or medical supply chain capacity.
  • Collaborate as part of the International Disaster Response team to strengthen Samaritan's Purse Canada's pharmaceutical readiness and response capability.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified applicants should be committed to Christian values and precepts and be in agreement with the Samaritan's Purse Statement of Faith.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Above average communication and interpersonal skills, focused on training, peacemaking, kindness, leadership, and duty of care
  • Thorough knowledge of supply chain operations including procurement, forecasting, inventory systems and management, supplier development
  • Strong attention to details through extensive data analysis
  • Ability to coach and mentor others, especially with international staff
  • Ability to problem solve and find creative solutions to programmatic problems
  • Ability to take initiative and meet tight deadlines
  • Willing to travel internationally

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Postgraduate degree in applicable pharmaceutical field required
  • 5+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

  • Registered as Pharmacist with the Alberta College of Pharmacists
  • Valid passport and the freedom/ability to travel domestically and internationally, if required
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Driver's License
  • Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Sector
