In your role as Clinical Educator, you will be accountable for the planning, leading, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive practice and educational program for all members of the interprofessional team within our IRT at SJHC, with opportunity to work in other areas of the program and organization. Reporting to the Senior Clinical Program Director for the IRT Program and the Emergency Care Program, you will work in collaboration with others on the leadership team. You will work to promote clinical excellence in patient and family centred care (PFCC) utilizing your knowledge of evidence based practices working in collaboration with members of the interprofessional team. As the successful candidate, you will continuously role model and mentor others to achieve success. You are an energetic person who takes pride in building strong and effective interpersonal relationships.

As a Clinical Educator, you will lead staff and support program development as a clinical expert, change agent, leader, educator, consultant, researcher, and facilitator. Working with the Clinical Manager, unit based Clinical Educators, interprofessional (IP) team across the site, and patients and families; you will plan, develop, implement and evaluate the program specific interprofessional practice, education, and orientation programs. Your knowledge and expertise in best practices for patients, PFCC and interprofessional collaboration, will make you an ideal candidate for this role. Your philosophy of education and practice excellence promotes a positive and continuous learning climate and is enhanced by your enthusiasm and innovation in patient care and clinical education. You will use best practices to continually drive quality improvement by engaging with the interprofessional team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate change initiatives. As a Clinical Educator, you will spend a significant amount of your time in various clinical areas within your portfolio to provide coaching and mentoring to the IP team, to ensure successful uptake and application of best-practices for optimal patient outcomes.

The Clinical Educator improves patient care by:

  • Identifying clinical practice learning needs
  • Designing, implementing and evaluating initiatives/educational programs that meet patient/staff needs
  • Coaching interprofessional staff with clinical decision making, in a fast-paced highly complex and acute environment
  • Demonstrating a strong understanding of care needs of patients and families in order to support to staff to provide exceptional care to patients, with optimal patient outcomes
  • Developing and coordinating processes and strategies that enable and advance professional practice and ongoing education/training.
  • Develop processes that ensure evidence-based practice.
  • Assisting/leading the implementation of evidence-based practice guidelines.
  • Promote and model an environment that fosters continuous learning and professional practice for program staff.
  • Supporting nursing orientation and other corporate initiatives

There are five major competencies for high performance as a Clinical Educator: clinical expertise, consultation, education and coaching, facilitation, and self-assessment and development. We are looking for an experienced clinician with advanced knowledge and skill who enjoys a high pace environment and can move the program forward from a professional practice and educational perspective. We are also looking for someone who is flexible with scheduling.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in nursing or education, required (Candidates currently pursuing their Master's degree are encouraged to apply). Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario and member in good standing.
  • CC1 an asset.
  • Demonstrated 3-5 years of relevant clinical and educational experience in medical and surgical nursing. Critical care and emergency department nursing experience an asset.
  • Strong skills in various computer programs, i.e. Microsoft Office and presentation software.
  • Demonstrated competence in the design, delivery and evaluation of educational programs for staff in a health care environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based standards of nursing practice
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of research in the practice setting, clinical education, planning, consultation and facilitation.
  • Experience using project management skills and methodologies in examining re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing implementing new strategies procedures.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills required.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to establish positive relationships with all staff and physicians on the team is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a system to validate learning, and ensure that practice changes are measured, sustained and improve outcomes.
  • A track record of ensuring evidence based research, and evolving recognized standards are used to guide practice changes.
  • Excellent oral and written abilities required.
  • Excellent attendance record required.
