About Highland Valley Copper
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada's largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.
Role Overview

Reporting to the General Supervisor - Dam Construction, the Senior Supervisor is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of construction activities at one of North America's largest hydraulic sand dams. The role oversees front-line supervisors and multiple First Nation contractors, ensuring work is completed to Teck's safety, sustainability and operational standards.
The successful candidate brings proven safety leadership in a heavy-equipment mining operation, strong communication skills, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The Senior Supervisor plays a key role in fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement, and is highly integrated with our Mill Operations, Mill Maintenance, Geotechnical, Environmental, Cultural Heritage and Projects teams.
Key Responsibilities
Safety
- Act as a courageous safety leader, enforcing all safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Foster a culture where employees and contractors are encouraged to speak up about safety concerns and take ownership of safe work practices.
- Conduct regular worksite inspections, hazard assessments, and safe work observations.
- Review and align contractor safety programs with Teck standards.
- Lead team-based hazard risk assessments and develop job plans
- Develop and review safe work procedures for Teck and contractor operations.
- Ensure all personnel are trained, competent, and equipped for assigned tasks.
- Respond promptly to unsafe conditions and initiate corrective actions.
Crew Supervision
- Direct and supervise front-line supervisors and contractors to execute the 24-72 hr construction plan
- Assign tasks clearly and verify completion against production and quality objectives.
- Monitor crew performance, provide coaching, and address issues impacting safety, productivity or compliance.
- Support employee development through on-the-job coaching and reinforcement of best practices.
- Provide relief coverage for the General Supervisor and Front-Line Supervisors as required
Operational Control
- Oversee loading, hauling, and placement activities to maintain production flow.
- Support development of 7-day plan for hydraulic sand, mechanical placement and pipefitting scope.
- Track and communicate progress against 7-day targets
- Monitor equipment utilization and report delays or mechanical issues to maintenance
- Coordinate with maintenance groups for shutdown planning and execution.
- Collaborate with other departments, especially Mill Operations and Maintenance, Site Engineering, Geotechnical, Sustainability, and Projects.
Compliance and Reporting
- Administer collective agreements and company policies consistently.
- Lead investigations related to safety, environmental incidents, or industrial relations.
- Ensure compliance with engineering and quality specifications, regulatory requirements, and environmental standards.
Sustainability
- Ensure the well-being of the people, communities, and environments we're entrusted with.
- Work closely with First Nation owned businesses and employees in a respectful and collaborative manner.
- Lead excavation work in culturally and environmentally sensitive areas, following ground disturbance permits and coordinating with required monitoring groups
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve crew efficiency and reduce delays.
- Provide input on operational challenges and suggest practical solutions.
- Support initiatives that enhance dam conditions and equipment interactions.
Qualifications
- 7-10 years of supervisory and leadership experience in a mining operation
- Strong understanding of mine safety regulations and operational standards.
- Valid Shift Boss Certificate, or eligibility for certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead under pressure
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and other task management software.
- Class 5 Driver's License (or equivalent).
Assets
- Operational experience with hydraulic sand and/or heavy-civil construction environment
- Supervisory experience across multiple trades (e.g. operations, pipefitting, millwrighting, heavy-duty mechanics)
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Experience with successful and positive interactions with IGOs and First Nation business representatives.
- Familiarity with Maximo, iAuditor and SuccessFactors.

Pay Range:
CAD $119,000 - $148,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
Working Conditions
- Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
- Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
