Through an integrated effort focusing on honest, open and consistent communication, Marketing and Communications provides the leadership needed to help the Division of Housing and Ancillary Services create and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with students and other stakeholders vital to the Division's growth and development. Marketing and Communications brings marketing perspectives and strategies into the Division's decision-making and planning. It provides leadership, expertise and services that enhance the quality and effectiveness of the Division's communications projects and programs.
ResponsibilitiesThe Street Team plays an important role within the Division of Housing and Ancillary Services, providing support to the HAS Marketing and Communications team.
Time CommitmentThis role will require a commitment of 5-24 weekly hours from September to April.
ResponsibilitiesStreet Team members will assist in the promotion of various services offered by the Division at different locations across the campus, including but not limited to:
- Conduct residence tours
- Provide visitors (incoming students, parents etc.) with a residence building tour and room tour during open house events and throughout the school year. Members are required to explain all specific details and answer questions as trained
- Promote the services offered by the HAS Division
- Participate in promotions focusing on driving interest, engagement and application by showcasing upper-year residences and apartments, promoting meal plans and campus dining options, increasing awareness of Bookstore products, and actively encouraging students to apply for paid and volunteer opportunities within the Division
- Set up and maintain booths across campus
- Engage in conversation with students/staff and provide information as trained
- Hand out promo coupons, flyers and food sampling, etc.
- Collect survey responses and give out prizes
- Attend and support large events, which may include Fall Preview Day, Spring Open House, Lunar New Year Gala, Diwali Gala, KIOC open house event, etc.
- Conduct surveys, food samplings and other initiatives to support operational decision-makings
This role requires participation in paid mandatory training sessions and monthly team meetings focused on team building and receiving training updates. Attendance at Fall Preview Day and Spring Open House—two key recruitment events—is mandatory. Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis for mandatory academic commitments or other extenuating circumstances.
Qualifications Education:- Must be enrolled as a full-time Western student for the 2026–27 academic year
- Minimum 2 years of customer service or similar work experience is required
- Previous experience living in a Western residence is preferred
- Reliable and dependable with the ability to work at various times throughout the week and weekend
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to express ideas clearly
- Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
- Demonstrate integrity and work in accordance with Western's policies and procedures
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Ability to prioritize and organize a fluctuating workload
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements as applicable
