About the opportunity
The Department of Psychology & Neuroscience at Dalhousie University invites applications for two 5 year, limited-term Instructor appointments with the Centre for Psychological Health (CPH). The CPH was established in 2023, as part of the Dalhousie Clinical Psychology PhD Program, in partnership with the Nova Scotia Office of Addiction and Mental Health to provide high quality training experiences for students in the Dalhousie Clinical Psychology Program and to meet community needs for psychological services.
This position reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Science through the co-Directors of the CPH and the Director of Clinical Training (DCT) of the Clinical Psychology PhD program, in the Department of Psychology & Neuroscience. The Clinical Psychologist (CP) will work within a clinic team consisting of primarily psychologists and clinical psychology graduate students, as well as allied health professionals and other academic support personnel. The CP will primarily provide supervision and training to clinical psychology graduate students, with some limited involvement in direct psychological intervention as well as psychological assessments as appropriate for training purposes and continuity of care. Ultimately, this position will support the training and service mission of the CPH in providing breadth and depth of training for students across diverse psychological skills, and much needed mental health services to those currently facing barriers within the Halifax community, and throughout Nova Scotia.
There are one or two full-time (.5 FTE or greater) positions available. Positions will be 5 year limited-term appointments.
Applicants must have a PhD/PsyD and is/will be eligible for registration as a Registered Psychologist with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology, as well as appropriate liability insurance as outlined by the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology. Scope of practice must include therapy and assessment with adults and/or children and youth. The applicant must demonstrate experience conducting psychological assessments and interventions with a broad range of presenting concerns and psychological conditions, such as mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, and trauma and stressor related disorders. The applicant must demonstrate skill and effectiveness in the application of a broad spectrum of evidence-based psychological interventions/therapies, especially Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or Trauma-focused interventions. The applicant must also demonstrate experience in supervision of providing psychological services, sensitive and appropriate care for clients from a range of diverse backgrounds (e.g., racial, cultural, gender-identity, sexual orientation, disability) and have excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and organizational skills.
Strongly Preferred:
- Strong skills in working within a team approach to training and supervision,
- Demonstrated skills in forming connections and liaising with community organizations.
- Demonstrated initiative and strong skills in problem-solving and decision-making.
- Scope of practice includes assessment and therapy skills working with children, adolescents, and adults (i.e., across the lifespan).
- Demonstrated experience in assessment and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders, trauma and stressor related disorders and/or addiction related disorders.
