Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters is looking for a part-time Designer to join our team. This role will work closely with our owners, marketing and our Head Designer, to support the visual expression of the brand across digital, print, and in-café touchpoints.

This is a hands-on, in-office design role suited to someone who is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working within a developing brand system, while also contributing thoughtful input as that system continues to take shape.

About the Role

The Designer will be responsible for producing high-quality design assets in support of the team's needs.

While Phil & Sebastian has an established visual foundation, parts of the brand are still being refined. This role offers the opportunity to contribute ideas, perspective, and craft to help shape how the brand continues to evolve, in close collaboration with the Head Designer and leadership team. Success in this role looks like reliable, well-executed design work that strengthens the brand and helps the team move efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create design assets across a range of formats, including:
  • Social media content
  • Website updates and digital assets
  • Email marketing
  • Paid ads
  • Posters, cards, and printed material
  • Packaging assets
  • In-café signage and assets
  • Execute design work that aligns with, and helps refine, Phil & Sebastian's brand systems and standards
  • Collaborate in-office with the Head Designer, Marketing Director, and Directors to deliver projects on time and to spec
  • Manage multiple design tasks simultaneously, with strong attention to detail
  • Prepare files correctly for both digital use and print production
  • Make revisions efficiently based on internal feedback
Working Structure
  • This is a permanent, part-time role with consistent, ongoing work (not freelance)
  • The annual budget is $26,000, with the potential to expand in the future
  • Hourly compensation typically ranges from $30–$55, depending on experience, seniority, and level of autonomy
  • More senior designers are expected to deliver higher output and make stronger design decisions per hour, and work fewer weekly hours.
  • Intermediate designers work more weekly hours with additional direction and support
  • Hours and compensation are set together to align with the annual budget and expected output
  • In-office role at our HQ in the Simmons Building (Calgary)
  • Design tasks are assigned and managed by Sebastian and/or Phil
  • The Head Designer, Marketing Director, and Directors determine which projects are handled by the Designer versus the Head Designer
What We're Looking For
  • Strong foundation in graphic and digital design
  • Comfort working within evolving brand guidelines and contributing constructively to their development
  • Proficiency in standard design tools (Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent)
  • Ability to take direction clearly and implement feedback thoughtfully
  • Organized, reliable, and comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-moving environment
  • Interest in coffee, food, or design-driven brands is a plus (but not required)
