Overview
We are seeking a skilled CAD Technician / Interior Designer to join our in-house team. The ideal candidate will have strong technical drafting abilities, experience with interior design, and a solid understanding of the BC Building Code and municipal permitting requirements. This role will support our development and construction projects by producing accurate drawings, coordinating design details, and assisting with project documentation from concept to completion.
Duties
- Develop conceptual designs and detailed layouts for residential and commercial, interiors using software such as SketchUp and AutoCAD.
- Create schematics, technical drawings, and 2D animations to visualize design ideas effectively.
- Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure design feasibility and adherence to project specifications.
- Prepare construction documents, schematics, and detailed drawings for project implementation.
- Assist in selecting materials, finishes, furniture, and lighting to enhance aesthetic appeal and functionality.
- Produce interior elevations, millwork drawings, and material boards.
- Conduct site visits to oversee project progress and ensure designs are executed accurately according to plans.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, and emerging technologies in interior design.
- Coordinate with suppliers, vendors, and contractors for materials and specifications.
- Prepare detailed CAD drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and construction details.
- Assist with preparation of Development Permit (DP) and Building Permit (BP) drawing packages.
- Update and revise drawings based on markups, design changes, and consultant input.
- Assist with site measurements, as-built drawings, and layout verification.
- Maintain organized drawing sets, file structures, and revision logs.
Experience
- Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Interior Design, or related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in architectural drafting, design coordination, or interior design.
- Strong understanding of the BC Building Code and experience with local permitting processes.
- Ability to read and create architectural and construction drawings with high accuracy.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Proven experience in interior design or related field with a strong portfolio demonstrating completed projects.
- Proficiency in CAD software including AutoCAD
- Familiarity with SketchUp for 3D modeling and visualization.
- Knowledge of construction processes from concept through completion is preferred.
- Strong technical skills combined with creative problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills to present ideas clearly to clients and team members. This position provides an engaging environment for innovative interior design professionals eager to contribute their expertise on diverse projects while utilizing cutting-edge technology in the field.
