Cultural Wellness Worker (Permanent, Full-time)

Description: Oshki-Giizhig Inc. is an Indigenous-based non-profit organization. Our vision is a healthy community built on Indigenous journeys towards wellness. Our mission is to walk beside, advocate, and support people affected by FASD and or other disorders. Strengthened by cultural practices and traditional teachings, support will assist in restoring balance to individuals and the community affected by trauma and violence.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience providing direct support to individuals with complex needs (e.g., intellectual disabilities, mental health concerns, FASD, addictions, justice, or CFS involvement)
  • Demonstrated knowledge for Indigenous cultures, languages, teachings, and traditions, including participation in or understanding of cultural activities and Indigenous concepts of care and support
  • Experience leading or supporting a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of disabilities, disorders, and mental health issues and the ability to respond effectively to crisis situations
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team and community-based setting
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
  • Current Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check required prior to employment

Job Responsibilities:

· Provide hands-on cultural support and guidance to participants through traditional teachings, ceremonies, and land-based activities

· Promote engagement with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community resources .

· Provide one-on-one and group cultural support, build trusting relationships with participants and staff

· Work collaboratively with program staff to integrate cultural perspectives and practices into daily programming and participant supports

· Support individuals in identifying and achieving personal goals related to wellness, culture, and community involvement

· Assist in planning and facilitating cultural workshops, events, and gatherings within the organization and community

· Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and cultural planning discussion.

· Maintain accurate records and documentation of cultural activities and participant engagement, in accordance with organizational policies

· Other Duties as assigned

May require flexible hours, including some evenings or weekends, depending on programming needs.

Additional Requirements: Criminal Record Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Child Abuse Registry Check. Driver's Licence and access to transportation.
