Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 annually ($33-$43/hr)
The Structural Draftsperson is responsible for producing accurate and detailed design and production drawings that support hull structure, outfitting, and fabrication activities for ship repair, vessel life extension, and new construction projects. Working from engineering firm drawings and internal engineering inputs, this role prepares production-ready documentation including nesting drawings, structural assemblies, and outfitting details. This position requires strong structural drafting skills and marine industry experience.
Responsibilities:
Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D models to develop production-ready structural drawings.Prepare hull structure drawings, including plates, stiffeners, bulkheads, foundations, and related assemblies.Develop nesting drawings and cutting plans for steel fabrication.Produce detailed outfitting and interface drawings (e.g., supports, electrical boxes, penetrations, mounting plates, pump foundations, seals).Ensure all drawings meet class, regulatory, and internal standards.Support Engineering, Production, and QC teams during fabrication and installation phases.Incorporate redlines, revisions, and updates efficiently and accurately.Maintain organized drawing packages and document control requirements.Other duties as assigned.Education & Experience:
College Technologist Diploma in Mechanical/Structural Engineering Technology or related discipline.Marine structural drafting experience required.Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ShipConstructor or equivalent).Understanding of structural fabrication methods and marine steel work.Strong attention to detail and ability to generate highly accurate production drawings.Ability to interpret engineering drawings and convert them into practical fabrication outputs.Excellent organizational and communication skills.Duke Marine Technical Services Canada Inc. is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
