Summary:

The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating the daily activities of the Structural, Mechanical, Finishing, and Electrical Draftsperson teams. Working closely with Project Management, Production, QA/QC, and third-party engineering firms, the Engineering Supervisor reviews drawings, assigns work, manages document flow, ensures interdisciplinary alignment, and provides technical guidance to the drafting team. The ideal candidate brings strong engineering knowledge, practical understanding of shipyard operations, and demonstrated leadership within a drafting or engineering environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise, support, and coordinate the work of Structural, Mechanical, Finishing, and Electrical Draftspersons, ensuring drawing packages are accurate, complete, and ready for production.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, 3D models, and vendor documents to confirm technical accuracy and compliance with codes, standards, and class requirements.
  • Assign drafting tasks, manage workloads, and ensure clear communication of work instructions, priorities, and deadlines across all drafting disciplines.
  • Ensure engineering concepts, calculations, and design decisions are correctly incorporated into production-ready drawings across all drafting disciplines.
  • Coordinate drawing development and revisions with Production, Project Management, QA/QC, and HSSE to ensure constructability, sequencing, and interdisciplinary alignment.
  • Work closely with third-party engineering contractors and internal engineers to review design intent, resolve technical issues, and maintain drawing accuracy during project progression.
  • Participate in conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design discussions with the Engineering Manager and internal/external engineering teams.
  • Review and approve drawing packages for quality, completeness, and compliance before release to Production.
  • Support the Purchasing Department by producing and reviewing technical information needed for procurement, including specifications and material lists.
  • Assist in preparing reports, planning documents, technical correspondence, and construction support documentation.
  • Facilitate technical meetings, resolve drawing-related issues, and proactively identify risks or gaps that may impact production.
  • Maintain drawing control, revision tracking, and document management standards for all engineering and production drawings.
  • Provide mentorship and technical development to drafting personnel, promoting continuous improvement and consistent drafting practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support engineering and drafting operations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Structural, Naval Architecture, or Marine Engineering preferred; equivalent technologist diploma with strong experience will be considered.
  • Experience supervising or leading drafting/design teams in shipbuilding, ship repair, heavy industrial fabrication, or a related engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of engineering design principles and the ability to interpret and review structural, mechanical, electrical, and outfitting drawings.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ShipConstructor, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of applicable marine codes, standards, and class society requirements (ABS, Lloyd's, DNV, Transport Canada) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate interdisciplinary work, manage multiple priorities, and maintain workflow under demanding production timelines.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to convey technical requirements clearly to drafting and production teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including document control and revision management.
  • Experience collaborating with third-party engineering contractors or consultants is an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across Engineering, Production, QA/QC, and Project Management environments.
