About Us
The Food Bank of York Region is a registered charity that operates a regional food distribution hub that serves municipal food pantries, community food pantries, social service agencies, social housing and schools. In 2024, we delivered over $9 million worth of perishable and non-perishable food to over 70 community partners.
Position Overview
We are seeking an on-site passionate, dynamic and motivated Community Relations and Food Procurement Coordinator to strengthen our network of community partners, and to procure and provide more food and more culturally acceptable food options. This one-year contract role will be critical in building relationships, increasing food access, and ensuring culturally appropriate food options for our diverse community in York Region.
Key Responsibilities and Outcomes
- Strengthen our network and improve services through relationship-building and strong communications with our community partners of food assistance providers.
- Increase access to food through relationship-building with our network of food providers (food retailers, distributors, brokers and farmers) to better meet the growth in demand for food.
- Grow our food procurement network to increase amounts and kinds of surplus food to better serve our network.
- Connect and/or reconnect with members of our community partner network through in-person site visits, email and phone communications, need assessments, surveys, food offers, and announcements.
- Improve services targeted to specific needs of our community partners
- Forge stronger and more collaborative relationships, resulting in increased food access through growth in collaboration and improved communication process.
- Engage in communications and relationship-building to procure kosher and halal foods and create a data base of kosher and halal food donors.
- Able to create a simple database of kosher, halal and other food donors.
- Proficient in the use of Office 365.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in either of the following areas;
- Public Relations
- Communications
- Marketing
- Nonprofit Management or Social Work
- Business Administration or Supply Chain Management
- Equivalent experience in community outreach or food procurement
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience in community engagement, procurement, or related fields is a must.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of food systems and/or non-profit operations.
- Valid G license with a vehicle prepared to use it in the field. Mileage paid.
- Own and use a smart phone for this position.
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
Pay: $58,000.00 per year
