Salary range for the position is $88,990 to $127,923. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.
How Will You Create An Impact
The Specialist, Medical Staff Governance, is responsible for managing key initiatives to support the Interior Health (IH) Health Authority Medical Advisory Committee (HAMAC) and Medicine Leadership Team, as well as provides leadership and supervisory support to the HAMAC Coordinator.

Reporting to the Director, Medical Administration and Governance, the Specialist is responsible and accountable for the planning and implementation of strategic, enterprise-wide initiatives to advance medical staff governance frameworks, initiatives, policies, and practices in accordance with Interior Health governance structures. The Specialist has a strong understanding of health authority and provincial medical staff governance structures (i.e. The Hospital Act, Medical Staff Bylaws & Rules, and Credentialing and Privileging) and HAMAC's mandate, including roles and responsibilities. The Specialist develops, fosters, and maintains strong collaborative working relationships with and among Medical Affairs, Medical and IH Leadership, external partners, and other interested parties.

What Will You Work On

  • Stewards the development, implementation, and evaluation of an annual governance workplan in collaboration with the HAMAC chair/committee, credentialing and privileging, and medical leadership, and ensures systems and process to support effective medical staff engagement, communication and accountability are in place.
  • Manages related budgets for the governance team and ensures performance to budgeted plan by monitoring expenditures and recommending and implementing remedial action as required.
  • Provides leadership and direct supervision to assigned staff using effective management techniques, e.g., coaching, mentoring skill and leadership development, and performance management.
  • Reviews, develops, operationalizes, and assesses for change, governance related policies, procedures and regional service models / processes as directed by HAMAC and Medical Affairs, including evaluation and continuous improvements processes. Creates comprehensive recommendations and action plans for improvement.
  • Cultivate and fosters relationships to develop comprehensive project plans that address key risks to medical staff, including timelines, deliverables, risk assessments and evaluation reports; ensures completion and coordination of assigned initiatives; facilitates committee and partner engagement; identifies issues for the committee and makes recommendations for resolution.
  • Develops and delivers on a reporting and monitoring system for project performance indicators and activities, status updates, decision briefs. Ensures document retention meets organizational policies and standards.
  • Maintains current and expert knowledge of best practices in medical and clinical governance, as well as IH and MOH policies related to the Hospital Act, Medical Staff Rules and Bylaws, and organizational priorities to provide strategic advice on current and future work of the committee.
  • Attends HAMAC meetings and supports facilitation of relevant sub-committees or working groups.
  • Liaises with the Executive Medical Group (EMG), Regional MACs, Local MACS, medical staff, as well as organizational and external partners such as the Doctors of BC and other health authorities on governance-related, strategic initiatives and mandates.
  • Collaborates with communications and medical leadership to develop and lead strategies to engage, inform and enhance awareness of governance related work to medical staff across the region.
  • In alignment with IH's Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations, and implementing required corrective actions.
