Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus, Edmonton.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Strategic Transformation & Delivery and Chief Transformation Officer, the Director, Enterprise Change Management provides institution-wide leadership and strategic oversight for all change management activities associated with major transformation programs, continuous improvement initiatives, and technology-enabled change across the University.
The Director is responsible for creating and stewarding an enterprise change management strategy that enables the University to successfully navigate complex, multi-year transformations and to strengthen its overall organizational readiness and resilience.
Operating as the University's senior subject-matter expert in organizational change, the Director ensures that institutional priorities academic, research, administrative, digital, and service transformation are adopted and sustained by leaders, faculty, staff, and students. The role sets the standards, methods, and tools for change management; oversees change and readiness assessments for major initiatives; leads enterprise-level communication and engagement strategies and builds long-term change capability across colleges, faculties, and administrative units.
The University Initiatives Office coordinates complex and cross-functional strategic initiatives across the University of Alberta. The office works alongside administrative units and colleges to help develop and implement solutions that improve the user experience for those who access U of A services, and for those that work within these business processes.
- Develops and executes an enterprise-wide change management strategy aligned with the University's strategic plans, transformation roadmap, and digital modernization priorities.
- Provides strategic direction and oversight for change management plans, stakeholder analyses, future-state readiness, and sustainment activities for priority transformation programs.
- Oversees the development and execution of institution-wide communication and engagement strategies for transformation initiatives led by the Office of Strategic Transformation & Delivery.
- Establishes and chairs an Enterprise Change Community of Practice to ensure continuous improvement and consistency across all change activities.
- Serves as the senior advisor to institutional leaders on complex organizational change, cultural transformation, and people impacts associated with strategy and technology shifts.
Oversees resource planning, workload allocation, and performance management for change management staff.
Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree in organizational development, leadership, communication, or a related field preferred.
- Professional certification in Organizational Change Management (e.g., CCMP, Prosci, or a comparable credential).
- 10+ years of progressive experience in large-scale organizational change, including leading enterprise or multi-unit transformation initiatives.
- Strategic advisory experience working with executives, governance bodies, and senior academic leaders in complex, unionized environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change strategy across a large, decentralized organization with diverse stakeholders.
- Expertise in organizational change methodologies, communication strategy, engagement planning, and adoption measurement.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and people-management skills with the ability to build a high-performing team.
- Outstanding communication abilities—written, verbal, and visual—with proficiency in tailoring messages for diverse audiences.
- Strong understanding of project, program, and portfolio management; organizational design; and continuous improvement principles.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity, manage complex stakeholder relationships, and navigate competing priorities.
