Under the general guidance of the Associate Director, the Regional Manager will be responsible for the management, orientation of Staff, and applicable administration of Regional PSAC directives within the Region. Working closely with the Regional Coordinator, the Regional Manager oversees the activities of region in their delivery of national and regional PSAC programs, including negotiations, membership mobilization, representation, education, organizing, health and safety, human rights, political.
What you will bring to the table:Education/Experience
- The work requires university graduation in labour relations, social policy, economics or public administration or a related field and/or a combination of experience in these or related fields;
- Knowledge and experience in at least three fields of expertise related to the scope of work undertaken by PSAC's regional offices, i.e.: labour relations, organizing, strike mobilization, education, political action, operational planning, and membership development. Candidates should have a general knowledge of the work in all of these areas.
- Knowledge of union and social issues;
- Knowledge of the political and operational structure of the PSAC;
- Familiarity with basic computer technology.
- Ability to demonstrate their commitment to union principles and social justice;
- Ability to analyze, apply, explain, and interpret collective agreements, employment legislation, and employer policies and directives;
- Ability to inspire, motivate, and organize groups to achieve collective goals and objectives;
- Ability to design and facilitate union education courses according to the principles and practices of popular education;
- Ability to develop union education materials;
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English with workers in a variety of occupations and backgrounds;
- Ability to create and bring strategic plans to fruition;
- Good problem solving and conflict resolution skills;
- Teamwork and leadership are required under circumstances that are often stressful and politically sensitive.
- High degree of self motivation and initiative is expected;
- Good judgment.
- Second language level indicated above is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Preferred candidates may have their second language skills assessed as part of the hiring process. However, valid federal government SLE results can be used toward this.
