Schedule: Monday to Sunday 8am to 5 pm

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Guides are key ambassadors of the museum. They are responsible for delivering engaging public and educational programming that showcases the past, present, and future of agriculture and food. They help visitors understand how food, fibers, agricultural by-products and renewable energy sources are produced, highlighting Canadian innovations across various fields and deepening public appreciation of the science and technology behind agriculture and food systems

Guides interpret the museum's collections, exhibitions and programs to a variety of audiences. They provide demonstrations, interactive activities and guided tours, as well as deliver educational programs.

They also deliver outreach programming in schools, public libraries, community organizations and at local fairs and events, extending the museum's reach beyond its physical space and fostering meaningful connections with diverse audiences throughout the region.

They enrich the visitor experience and foster a deeper understanding of Canadian history, innovation, and the connections between people, technology, and the natural world.

They support the museum's operational needs. This may include assisting with the care and monitoring of museum spaces, services and collections, and the health and safety of visitors.

They play a vital role in upholding the museum's educational mission, enhancing visitor engagement, and contributing to membership and revenue objectives.

Guides are responsible for the daily care and upkeep of the museum's small livestock (rabbits, ducks, chickens, turkeys, and quails). They also support the Herdsperson(s) in the care for large livestock (dairy and beef cattle, horses, donkeys, sheep, goats, pigs.) Additionally, guides may assist with basic beehive maintenance.

EDUCATION

• Minimum 1-year post-secondary education (college or university) in the field of Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Sciences, Education, Communication, History, Museum Studies or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
• Class G (Ontario) or Class 5 (Quebec) Driver's license is required.
• CPR and First Aid (asset);
  Food handling certificate (asset).

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 1 year experience in interpretation, education, theatrical experience in museums, tourism, schools and or related fields;
• Minimum 1 year experience working with children, youths and the public;
• Minimum 1 year experience working in a front facing or customer engagement role.

KNOWLEDGE

• Knowledge of concepts on agriculture, food, living things, soil composition, biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, genetics and heredity, biotechnology, animal husbandry and crop cultivation, nutrition and food production;
• Knowledge of different learning styles and interpretive techniques to deliver public and educational programming to diverse audiences of varying ages and group size;
  Knowledge of concepts of Canadian history and the First Nations.

• Ability to address agriculture-related questions and interact with visitors with objectivity, composure and empathy;
• Ability to work and interact with various livestock that weigh up to 2000 pounds and which may have unpredictable behaviors that carry inherent risk;
  Ability to care and tend to small farm animals.
