Overall Responsibility:

The Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Quality Engineer is responsible for the daily operation and continuous improvement of the welding NDT (Souvis) system within the plant. This role ensures that quality, capability, and performance targets for both the product and manufacturing processes are met. The NDT Quality Engineer will act as a facilitator for long-term strategic planning of welding NDT processes while also developing and mentoring NDT/Souvis users. The role involves conducting advanced data analysis, overseeing audits, ensuring calibration of NDT equipment, and driving continuous improvement initiatives aligned with the company's objectives.

Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the welding NDT (Souvis) system and ensure optimal functionality.
  • Act as the strategic lead for long-term planning and improvement of welding NDT processes.
  • Ensure alignment of the Souvis processes with the organization's mission and objectives.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly Souvis data analysis (by part, machine, seam, rejection type, etc.) using tools such as Soublog and Funnelcloud.
  • Maintain and update the Souvis change log, perform Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies, and oversee version updates.
  • Utilize advanced statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) to enhance process performance.
  • Ensure the completion of Souvis Parameter and Process Audits (LPA), supporting the closure of open findings.
  • Perform and oversee the calibration of Souvis equipment, including cameras and LEDs, while developing and improving Standard Work Instructions (SWIs).
  • Lead and mentor Souvis users through structured training programs and continuous improvement (CI) projects.
  • Provide technical expertise in problem-solving, quality management, and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiatives to support broader business objectives.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with NDT systems – camera or sensor based, including setup, calibration, parameter adjustment settings, and troubleshooting.
  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Preferred 5+ years of experience within the automotive manufacturing industry, or a high tech or safety-related industry.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience in root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Programming experience is an asset.
  • Experience with steel products and laser welding processes is an asset.
  • Certification in quality management (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, CQE) is an asset.
