Bereavement Care Coordinator - Full time

Heartache2Hope is a charitable organization offering a continuum of supportive care after suicide loss. Our services include Professional Grief Counseling, specialized Trauma Therapy, Peer Support, and Group Supports. Our goal is to help individuals heal from traumatic loss while building resilience and recreating a fulfilling life. We provide in-person and virtual support to suicide loss grievers of all ages across Ontario.

We currently have an opportunity for a full-time Grief Counsellor/Bereavement Care Coordinator to join our team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Address Inquiries related to suicide loss grief and our supportive services

· Conduct intakes and assessments

· Provide trauma and grief counselling to suicide loss grievers across the life span, both in-person and virtual, in accordance with the standards, policies and procedures set out by Heartache2Hope

· Facilitate suicide loss grief support groups and activities

· Facilitate programming that is responsive to the needs of clients and their families

· Provide trauma and grief related education in person and virtually within our organization and community

· Participate and/or assist in the planning, development, and implementation of supportive, educational and development activities within our organization and for other professionals and community members

· Support the coordination of the overall Program

· Assist with the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of Peer Support Volunteers and of group facilitators

· Track statistical information regarding utilization of services and program outcomes

· Participate in annual planning, identifying needs and goals for the program, and maintaining oversight accountability for program spending

· Working with the Programming Team members to create an annual programming calendar and assist with developing and maintaining program content for the website and other social media outlets

· Cultivate and maintain community relationships for referrals and program development

· Support operations of special events and activities

Qualifications

· Degree in Social Work, ideally with a Masters designation, with a focus on mental health with specialized education and training in trauma, traumatic loss, grief, and bereavement or equivalent

· Regulated to provide counselling though Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or other equivalent governing body

· Minimum 2 years of experience providing individual and group bereavement support

· Demonstrated experience in client assessment, counselling, and the provision of grief support and counselling

· Demonstrated experience working with children, teens, young adults and adults

· Demonstrated skills with group planning and group facilitation

· Experience and comfort working with volunteers providing individual and group peer support an asset

· Demonstrated knowledge and ability to interact with diverse cultures and faith groups.

· Excellent communication skills, empathy, and effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills

· Knowledge of community resources in Halton, Peel, Hamilton, as well as provincial and national mental health resources an asset

· Experience working with databases, Microsoft Office programs, videoconferencing platforms, and Dropbox an asset

Job Requirements:

· A satisfactory current criminal reference check for Vulnerable Sector

· Successful completion of our 30-hour Suicide Loss Grief Training Program

Working conditions:

Work location will include a hybrid of in-office and some remote/work from home, with in-office eventually being the most prevalent. Candidates are expected to provide their own equipment to perform their duties such a laptop and phone. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to Oakville and Burlington. Hours will vary and will include daytime, evening, and weekend hours as required, with the primary hours being Monday to Friday, daytime.

Rate: $40/hr at an average of 35hr/week
