Head of Construction

Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada Fabutek Design Services Full time

Role Profile: Head of Construction (BC Only)Role Title

Head of Construction (Full-time | Reports to: Founder, Macy Munson)

Business Context & What You're Walking Into

Fabutek is in an exciting startup-to-scale-up phase. We're developing a new model for residential construction — combining high-performance prefab assemblies with streamlined onsite delivery. Our systems, processes, and teams are evolving rapidly, and we're looking for someone who is interested in a meaningful, multi-dimensional role with a lot of opportunity for growth.

As our Head of Construction, you will be stepping into a hands-on, foundational role where:

  • We are still building out our construction division — both in the factory and onsite installation teams.

  • Many workflows, SOPs, and technical standards are in early stages and need refinement, consistency, and leadership.

  • You will help shape the culture, build the team, and create scalable practices as we grow.

  • In the early months, you will be actively on the tools, setting up the shop production line, supporting installs, running sites, and solving problems on the ground.

  • Over time, the role transitions into more supervisory, managerial, and strategic leadership as the team grows.

  • You will work closely with the founder and key leadership during a defining phase of Fabutek's growth.

This role is ideal for someone excited about sustainable, energy-efficient buildings, and building something from the ground up, not just managing an established program.

Role Summary

The Head of Construction is Fabutek's senior operations leader in British Columbia. This role is responsible for delivering high-performance prefab residential projects safely, efficiently, and to specification — while also helping to build Fabutek's construction department from an early stage. We want someone to help set up the factory operations and the field operations.

The ideal candidate is a forward thinking person, open to breaking away from traditional construction workflows and stepping into an innovative environment. This person will have extensive construction experience in the full scope of a residential build, excellent leadership skills, and a desire to develop a future team and operational framework. This is not a "step into a turnkey system" position — it's for someone who wants to help create the system. We need you to be willing to roll up your sleeves in the beginning while we build out the teams, then evolve into more of a managerial role as the teams solidify.

Key Responsibilities1. Startup-Phase Leadership

  • Work closely with Fabutek leadership to build both the fabrication team and site install team..

  • Work with the founder to oversee both shop fabrication and site installs..

  • Support training and mentoring of future team members.

2. Site Leadership & Supervision

  • Serve as Site Superintendent on Fabutek jobs throughout BC, especially in the early phase. We offer our buildings all over BC.
  • Run day-to-day site operations with strong ownership and problem-solving.

  • Maintain site documentation, WorkSafeBC compliance, safety culture, and field reporting.

3. Hands-On Construction Execution

(During the initial growth phase)

  • Work on the tools as needed to support installations, details, and site tasks.

  • Lead small crews and collaborate with the factory team to ensure consistent execution of panelized systems.

  • Coordinate subtrades and ensure quality workmanship.

4. Stakeholder Coordination

  • Act as the primary liaison for Fabutek in the field — bridging design, factory, clients, and trades.

  • Communicate clearly and proactively about schedules, risks, logistics, and needs.

5. Quality Assurance

  • Help to oversee our factory CSA-A277 QC/QA requirements (this is our factory built panel certification which allows us to conceal things that would normally be inspected on site).
  • Uphold Fabutek's performance standards: airtightness, insulation quality, durability, and detail precision.

  • Conduct QC checks, troubleshoot issues early, and guide solutions.

6. Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Collaborate with operations to develop site schedules and installation plans.

  • Contribute field insights to design and prefab documentation.

7. Safety Leadership

  • Maintain WorkSafeBC requirements and promote Fabutek's values of safety both in the field and in our culture. We are a very inclusive organization and it's important to us that all members of our team feel safe. We believe in open, honest, and respectful communication.

8. Travel & Multi-Site Oversight

  • Travel within BC as needed to oversee projects, particularly during install phases. We are about to start a project that will be delivered to Gibson's so there is a requirement for some travel to close out projects in areas outside of Kamloops. This doesn't have to be a forever requirement if it isn't desirable but in the infancy of our company we need this person to be willing to travel. Currently we have a lot of interest in the Sunshine Coast, Revelstoke, Shuswap and Kamloops and the surrounding area.

Required Experience & Qualifications (Technical & Professional)

  • Strong technical knowledge of residential construction in BC.

  • Strong understanding of or interest in learning high-performance building envelopes and panelized/prefab systems.

  • Proven ability to lead crews and manage subtrades.

  • Experience as a site superintendent, foreman, or lead carpenter.

Soft Skills & Leadership

  • Comfortable in a startup atmosphere: flexible, solutions-oriented, proactive, and calm under pressure.

  • Strong communicator with clients, teams, and leadership.

  • Eager to build systems, not just follow them.

  • Ability to mentor and grow a team over time.

Certifications & Requirements

  • Valid BC driver's license and reliable ability to travel.

  • Safety certifications (First Aid, Fall Protection, forklift certification, aerial work platform certification). These are a bonus but not a hard requirement**

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Successful build-out of Fabutek's construction team and processes.

  • On-time, high-quality site delivery.

  • Site safety metrics and WorkSafeBC compliance.

  • Quality of envelope execution (airtightness, detailing, rework rate).

  • Team productivity and crew development.

  • Client satisfaction and communication effectiveness.

Success Profile (What "Great" Looks Like)

  • Embraces the startup environment and contributes to culture, systems, and innovation.

  • Moves fluidly between hands-on work and supervisory oversight.

  • Helps recruit, train, and mentor the growing construction team.

  • Builds trust with trades, clients, and internal teams.

Steadily transitions into a more strategic leadership role as Fabutek scales.
