Date Posted: December 22, 2025Position Title: Lifeguard/Swim InstructorLocation: Kamloops Downtown Y (400 Battle Street, Kamloops BC)Terms: Permanent CasualShift: Shifts vary – will include weekday mornings, evenings and weekendsSalary: $18.90 per hour Start Date: ASAPReports To: Supervisor, AquaticsNature & ScopeReporting to the Head Lifeguards and Aquatics Supervisor, the Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will perform lifeguarding duties, instruct swimming lessons and aquatic programs, and perform cleaning duties and tasks as required.Major Responsibilities-in this position, you will:Under the supervision of the Head Lifeguards and Aquatic Supervisor, the lifeguard/instructor will perform the lifeguarding duty of providing safety and supervision to all members. Maintaining a high level of quality that meets that standards and principles of the Lifesaving Society. Instructing swim lessons according to the YMCA Swim Program. Complete administrative duties related to the delivery of all aquatic programs. Assist in the training and supervision of aquatic volunteers. Maintain the cleanliness and functionality of the aquatic facility by performing janitorial and maintenance duties as required. Assist with the delivery of aquatic programs and special events. Work as a team with the other lifeguard/instructors to maintain a safe, clean and welcoming facility. Perform emergency procedures within their trained ability without hesitation. Perform any and all related duties assigned by the Head Lifeguards, Aquatic Supervisor, or Aquatic Director.Qualifications-you bring:Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 3 years)CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year)National Lifeguard - Pool OptionSwim Instructor certification or equivalentExperience as a Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor - preferredYMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferredAquatic related certifications from a recognized certifying body (LSS, Red Cross, BCRPA, etc.)Access to reliable transportation or a vehicle Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date 3 professional referencesAbout YMCA BC:By igniting belonging and championing health equity, YMCA BC strengthens the foundations of community.
