Alterra Experiences division is an operating unit of Alterra Mountain Company. The Experiences division is dedicated to building Alterra's adventure hospitality operations and maximizing the impact of bringing together the world's two largest heli-skiing businesses – CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures ("CMH") & Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing ("MWHS").  The Experiences team structure ensures operational focus, while providing shared services functionality supporting growth of both CMH & MWHS.

CMH - With 60 years of experience, CMH has evolved into the world's largest Heli-Skiing and Heli-Hiking company, operating 11 lodges in the winter and 3 in the summer throughout British Columbia, Canada. The business's central office is in Banff, Alberta, Canada.

MWHS - has 50+ years of experience and operates the first and only Heli-ski village resort.  Located in Blue River, BC MWHS features 22 exclusive log chalet accommodations plus village amenities and provides access to more than 1.5 million acres of terrain and over 100 peaks.

POSITION SUMMARY

Alterra Experiences is seeking an operationally strong, people-centric Director of Employee Experience to lead the execution of core HR functions across CMH and MWHS. This role will oversee the employee experience department at both CMH and MWHS, while partnering closely with the VP, Employee Experience to drive transformation, scalability, and alignment across all people systems and processes. The hands-on Director will play a pivotal role in shaping employee experience by streamlining HR operations, driving compliance and innovation, and building scalable programs that fuel our growth and reinforce our values-driven culture—all within a dynamic, high-growth, and highly engaged multi-location environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Total Rewards

  • Design, implement, and manage compensation and benefits programs aligned with business goals and market trends. Working in collaboration with the internal Alterra Shared Services.
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations related to compensation and benefits.
  • Partner with Shared Services to complete Total Rewards review for CMH and MWHS.

 People Operations

  • Oversee HRIS, payroll, and total rewards strategy and execution, ensuring seamless integration and scalability.
  • Champion Workday optimization and automation across modules, partnering with internal and external stakeholders, providing a hands-on approach to this work, while directing and supporting the team.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial, federal, and international employment regulations.
  • Conduct department audit to determine optimal cost efficiencies, aligned to the employee experience strategy and the budget.

Organizational Effectiveness

  • Lead workforce planning and change management initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement in HR processes, SOPs, and service delivery.
  • Monitor KPIs to measure HR operational performance and employee experience outcomes.
  • Create people-based data driven dashboards to inform and drive strategic decisions.
  • Partner with the VP, EE to create scalable people-based plans to enable business efficiency.

Culture Stewardship

  • Champion Alterra's core values of Collaboration, Authenticity, Purpose, and Empowerment through all employee interactions.
  • Promote a respectful, inclusive, and psychologically safe workplace across diverse seasonal and year-round teams.
  • Lead the resolution of complex employee relations issues, including interpersonal conflicts, performance concerns, and policy violations.
  • Act as a neutral and trusted advisor to employees and managers, facilitating fair and timely outcomes.
  • Ensure consistent application of policies across all lodges and corporate offices, including seasonal workforce considerations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain employee relations policies that align with provincial and federal labor laws.

  • Oversee sensitive workplace investigations with discretion, integrity, and thorough documentation.
  • Partner with Legal and Risk teams to mitigate exposure and ensure compliance with employment standards and human rights legislation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including oversight of HR operations, system realignments, and compliance.
  • 5+ years of experience managing Workday or similar enterprise HRIS platforms.
  • Proven track record of leading transformation and scaling HR operations in multi-site or seasonal businesses.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills.
  • Experience in hospitality, adventure tourism, or seasonal workforce environments is a plus.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • MBA, an asset.
  • CHRP or other HR designations preferred.
  • PCP designation, an asset.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driver's abstract.
