Remote Controller (CPA) - Construction Industry

Location: Remote (Home or Office in Canada)

Job Type: Part-Time, Hourly Contract

We work with contractors and owners to improve processes, streamline reporting, and build stronger financial structures that support long-term success.

2. Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Canadian CPA to provide ongoing Controller-level support to multiple construction-industry clients. You will work remotely, supporting client bookkeepers, improving accounting systems, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This role is ideal for a CPA with an existing small client base who is looking to expand their portfolio with flexible, recurring contract work.

3. Responsibilities

  • Provide Controller-level oversight across several construction clients
  • Improve month-end processes, reporting structures, and accounting workflows
  • Support and mentor client bookkeepers on accounting treatments and posting accuracy
  • Review and maintain general ledger structure and job-costing frameworks
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and management reports
  • Ensure compliance with GST/PST, payroll remittances, T4s, T5018s, WCB, and other government filings
  • Collaborate with external accountants for year-end engagements
  • Provide financial guidance and insights to business owners

4. Qualifications

  • CPA designation (in good standing) - required
  • Must reside in Canada on a full time and permanent basis
  • 5-7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Controller or senior accounting roles
  • Experience working with construction or contracting businesses
  • Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online
  • Knowledge of financial statement preparation, general ledger setup, and job costing
  • Strong communication skills and ability to support multiple clients independently
