We're Hiring 

We are now accepting applications for a Behaviour Interventionist based out of the Family Connection Centre in Kelowna.

Behaviour Interventionists (BI's) will work directly with children or youth (ages 0-18) who are diagnosed with, or have clinical indicators of Autism, neurodiversity, developmental delays, or other complex support needs, to enhance the child / youth's ability to function in their families, schools and communities.

Hours / Schedule:

  • Full-Time, Permanent
  • Averaging 37.5-hours per-week

Responsibilities:

Working both in centre and using an outreach, community-based, family-centered service delivery approach, and working under the supervision of Behaviour Specialists or Behaviour Consultants, BI's will:

  • Cooperates with the Practice Lead, Agency Leadership / Management and administrative personnel in the coordination, implementation and development of program services and agency initiatives.
  • Assist with implementing recommended behaviour management strategies and programs.
  • Provide in-home or in-centre implementation, consultation, and education with implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs).
  • Use positive behaviour interventions to reduce challenging behaviour.
  • Work directly with children, youth and their family members to implement PBSPs that may have goals and outcomes to strengthen relationships, reduce conflict, decrease sibling rivalry, and increase skill building.
  • Provides a range of support, training, and consultation to improve the child's development and functioning in areas such as activities of daily living, language and communication, social skills, school, domestic skills and community / leisure / recreational engagement and social emotional skills.
  • Follows strategies and recommendations in PBSPs as well as specific programming including teaching procedures and data collection.
  • Collaborates with observations, support, training, and consultation from Behaviour Specialists, Behaviour Consultants, and Practice Lead.
  • Facilitate child or youth-focused groups designed to improve social skills, communication, life skills and peer relationships.
  • Collaborates with involved FCC service providers and community partners to provide comprehensive goal-focused interventions.
  • Implement and maintain required case management and clinical records.


Other responsibilities include:

  • Building relationships and connections within the community to improve service integration.
  • Appling culturally safe and agile, trauma informed, relational and person / family-centered modalities.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Diploma or certificate in Behaviour Intervention, Autism and Behavioural Sciences, or relevant Social Services or Human Services disciplines.

To be successful in your role, you'll also need:

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and verbal / written communication skills.
  • Be detail-oriented, organized, and efficient.
  • Be skilled at managing multiple concurrent projects, assignments and tasks requested from multiple sources.
  • Be capable of working independently, and frequently under pressure.

Other Requirements: 

Given the nature of our work, please note that all shortlisted candidates:

  • Need a valid BC Driver's License, regional insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Must undergo a screening process, including a criminal record search.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of applied behaviour analysis, strengths-based family systems and attachment-based support.
  • Well-versed in child development, developmental delays, neurodiversity, ASD, FASD and complex support needs.
  • Familiar with IHCAN assessments, and recommended interventions.
  • Ability to establish trusting relationships with children, youth, and families.
  • Experience working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Wage / Benefits:

$ $ 30.00 based on relevant experience and education.

Upon successful completion of a probationary period, full-time employees (minimum 20-hrs per week) are eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP or TFSA contributions)

New full-time employees are eligible for 3-weeks paid vacation to start, as well as paid sick days as described in agency policy.
