Engineering Manager

About the Role

Western Alliance Logistics is launching a standalone technology spinoff focused on building an agentic operating system for transportation companies, including carriers, shippers, and 3PLs.

As an operator in the logistics industry, we see firsthand how much of the work is still manual. Quoting, dispatch, carrier sourcing, follow-ups, and exception handling are driven by emails, phone calls, spreadsheets, and fragmented systems. These workflows are slow, inconsistent, and difficult to scale.

The spinoff is building a software-first platform where autonomous agents coordinate operational workflows, allowing teams to focus on decision-making and exceptions rather than repetitive tasks.

This role will lead the engineering execution of that spinoff from the ground up.

About the Position

We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to own the technical delivery of the new technology company.

You will be responsible for system architecture, writing production code, enforcing quality standards, and leading a hybrid engineering team. This is a founding-level role with full ownership of delivery, reporting into leadership while operating with startup-level autonomy.

What You Will Build

You will help design and deliver systems that automate core transportation workflows, including:

• Quote intake and normalization from email, phone, and APIs
• Lane analysis, pricing logic, and margin controls
• Carrier sourcing, communication, and follow-ups
• Order lifecycle management from booking through delivery and invoicing
• Exception detection, escalation, and resolution
• Integration of autonomous agents directly into operational workflows

These systems will power daily operations for carriers, brokers, and shippers.

Responsibilities

Engineering and Architecture

• Own the technical architecture across backend, frontend, and infrastructure
• Design modular systems aligned with real-world transportation workflows
• Write production code regularly, including features, refactors, and fixes
• Review pull requests and enforce code quality standards
• Own CI/CD pipelines, environments, and release processes

Delivery and Execution

• Own end-to-end delivery of engineering work
• Translate operational requirements into clear technical execution plans
• Lead and unblock a remote offshore engineering team
• Identify quality gaps and resolve them decisively
• Ensure engineering output aligns with operational reality and product intent

Leadership and Hiring

• Act as technical leader for the spinoff engineering organization
• Interview and hire in-house engineers for the new company
• Establish engineering standards for ownership, velocity, and quality
• Gradually reduce dependency on outsourced development

Qualifications

Required

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong backend experience with , Python, or Go
• Strong frontend understanding of React and
• Experience leading engineers while remaining hands-on
• Experience managing remote or offshore teams
• Ability to own complex systems end-to-end

Preferred

• Experience building or scaling B2B SaaS platforms
• Startup or early-stage company experience
• Experience refactoring or stabilizing complex codebases
• Familiarity with logistics, transportation, fintech, or marketplace platforms
