Pax House is a new student residence right next to the UBC campus, operated by the Pacific Centre for Discipleship Association. Our mission is to provide housing and foster an intentional Christian community rooted in the values of peacemaking, hospitality, simplicity, and service.

Position Summary

The Director of Student Life plays a key role in creating an intentional Christian community for more than 100 student residents at Pax House. This position is responsible for planning, promoting, and executing spiritual development initiatives, encouraging community involvement, providing leadership training, and offering student support. The Director also supervises and advises Resident Assistants (RAs) with a focus on empowering and guiding these individuals as they implement initiatives aimed at strengthening community engagement and helping students successfully navigate life within a communal environment. As a visionary advocate, the Director ensures that all community programs consistently reflect Pax House's mission and values. The Director of Student Life will report to the Director of Menno Hall.

Core Responsibilities

• Develop and implement policies that reflect Pax House's values of peacemaking, hospitality, simplicity, and service.
• Design and lead spiritual life programming, including retreats, worship opportunities, and spiritual direction initiatives.
• Serve as an advocate for all community programs, ensuring their visibility, active engagement, and the achievement of measurable outcomes across events and initiatives.
• Supervise and mentor RAs and student leaders, fostering leadership development and accountability.
• Apply restorative conflict resolution principles in addressing conflicts and conduct issues within the residence community.
• Organize RA training and Fall Orientation with a focus on conflict resolution, restorative practices, and intentional community building.
• Act as Emergency Response Coordinator for Pax House and formulate emergency response policies in partnership with external stakeholders.
• Manage internal and external communications with students, parents, and the Pax House Board.
• Conduct student applicant interviews and oversee admissions processes.
• Liaise and partner with campus clubs and external organizations to strengthen community engagement and expand programming opportunities.
• Plan and deliver "faith and learning" events and experiences that connect spiritual formation with academic and personal growth.

Candidate Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in spiritual direction and planning for spiritual life development (formal training or practical experience).
• Strong understanding and application of restorative conflict resolution principles in community living.
• Proven ability to promote and ensure success of diverse programming initiatives.
• Skilled in conflict management and resolution, with formal mediation training preferred.
• Experience supervising young adults and fostering leadership development.
• Background in intentional community living and Christian faith formation.
• Master's degree in Leadership, Theology, Social Work, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 5 years leadership experience in university residence life or student development.
• Skilled at assessing mental health risks and actively offering constructive strategies to encourage healthy decision-making and strengthen positive behaviours within the community.

• Faith-Based Program Leadership – Directors of Christian camps, retreat centers, or nonprofit programs focused on young adults and community engagement.
• Social Services or Counselling in Higher Education – Professionals with expertise in mental health, restorative justice, and conflict resolution within student or community settings.

Compensation & Benefits

• Full-time position with salary range $75,000–$100,000 plus benefits
• There is potential for the successful candidate to live on-site at Menno Hall; however, this is not a requirement of the position.
