Reporting to the Aquatics Coordinator, this position is responsible for lifeguarding, instructing, and facilitation of all additional aquatic programs. They will be responsible for maintaining the safety supervision of guests, enforcement of policies, and assisting in the maintenance of cleanliness of the aquatic space.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will:
- Provide timely, accurate information to the Aquatics Coordinator, or designate, and respond to the decisions and directions generated by the same.
- Be responsible for the safety and supervision of participants and staff to ensure that policies, rules, and regulations set out by the City of Belleville, Government organizations, and/or Governing Agencies are adhered to.
- Represent the City professionally by adhering to Policies and Procedures as set out by the Corporation.
- Be responsible for safety, security and cleanliness around the pool deck, lifeguard office, and change room areas.
- Assist with shift coverage, where needed (including teaching, guarding or any other duties involved in covering another staff).
- Acting as a positive role model, work as part of a team to facilitate all aquatic programs.
- Supervise any special events and rental groups including but not limited to swim meets, camp swims, Board of Education programs.
- Resolve problems and/or conflicts with patrons and/or staff, including completion of appropriate documentation and follow-up where needed.
- Assume the responsibility for assessing, responding, providing first aid, and providing support to other staff as needed in an emergency, and complete the necessary reports/documentation and conduct staff debriefs.
- Be responsible for maintaining personal fitness levels to meet the necessary requirements to adequately lifeguard, monitor, lead, and instruct in designated programs.
- Be responsible for delivering and supporting a wide range of aquatic programs, including swim lessons, aquafit classes, special events, and community swim initiatives/programs.
- Be responsible to lifeguard and maintain patron safety.
- Attend scheduled training and development sessions.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with staff, patrons and members of the public, promoting a high standard of customer service.
- Perform all tasks and responsibilities through the lens of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, ensuring commitment to fairness, representation, accessibility and respect for diverse perspectives and cultures in all aspects of work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/SPECIALIZED SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Graduation Diploma
- Valid Standard First Aid and C.P.R. 'C' Certification
- Lifesaving Society:
- Valid Swim Instructor Certification
- Valid National Lifeguard Certification
- Valid Lifesaving Instructor Certification
- Valid Aquatic Supervisor Training Certification
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check ("CRC") and Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to commencing work at the City of Belleville.
- Valid Driver's License class "G", satisfactory driver's abstract to be held and maintained.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) Year College Diploma in Recreation or similar field

- Bronze Cross Examiner
- Standard First Aid Instructor/ Examiner
- National Lifeguard Instructor/ Examiner
- Instructor Trainer
- Certified Pool Operator
- Certified Aqua-fitness Instructor (AQX, CALA, WaterArt, YMCA)
- High Five:
- Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD)
- Quest 2
- Principles of Healthy Aging (PHA)
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Required Qualifications:
- One (1) year instructing and lifeguarding experience
- One (1) year Head Instructor/Guard experience
- Demonstrated interpersonal and team skills; ability to communicate professionally and effectively
- Be knowledgeable of City programs and have strong public relation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with related recreation software (Xplor Recreation)
- Experience working in a municipal recreation setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
