The Berczy Tavern is a modern North American restaurant and piano bar located in the heart of Old Town Toronto. We're looking for a passionate barback to join our team and contribute to the lively, welcoming vibe of the Tavern.

Position Overview:

This part-time barback role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow within the hospitality industry. Previous barback experience is an asset but not required — what matters most is a strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, and the ability to keep up in a high-energy environment.

Working alongside experienced bartenders, you'll gain hands-on knowledge of bar operations, prep, speed, and craft cocktail fundamentals. This position offers real career growth opportunities for anyone interested in eventually moving into bartending.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support bartenders by ensuring the bar is fully stocked and organized
  • Refill ice, garnishes, glassware, and bar supplies throughout service
  • Assist with bar prep, including juicing, cutting garnishes, and batching
  • Maintain cleanliness of the bar area, including dishware and tools
  • Help restock inventory and organize deliveries
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, and alcohol service guidelines
  • Work efficiently to keep up with a fast-paced, high-volume service

Qualifications:

  • Previous barback experience is a plus, but not mandatory
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure
  • Fast learner with genuine interest in hospitality and bar operations
  • Team player with excellent communication skills
  • Must be comfortable with physical tasks (lifting, carrying, restocking)
  • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends
  • Smart Serve certification required (or willing to obtain before start date)
