The Head of Educational Outreach role sits within the Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement (DSIEE) leads UNSW's efforts to make a positive and lasting impact on society, promoting equity and social justice, and driving engagement activities which enhance UNSW's reputation as a key contributor to society through its research, teaching, and community engagement.

Why Your Role Matters: 

The Head of Educational Outreach and Pathways, Student Equity is accountable for the design, development, and implementation of key University wide initiatives to progress student equity and widening participation at UNSW. The role leads the development of educational outreach, admissions pathways, and ensures their alignment with the University's Widening Participation strategy. The role leads the development of a stakeholder engagement strategy and including the development of partnerships with schools, students, NGO's, community organisations, and other Tertiary education providers such as TAFE, to drive progress to meet UNSWs access rate targets and KPI's.

The role also leads strategic initiatives internally at UNSW such as whole of University engagement with Students as Partners program, aligned with broader programs of work stemming from the University's overarching strategy, Progress for All.

Who you are: 

You will be a strategic, relationship-driven leader to spearhead educational outreach and admissions pathways, build strong external partnerships, and drive whole-of-university initiatives that advance UNSW's widening participation goals. You must also have:

  • A relevant postgraduate degree (Education/Teaching/) and extensive experience or an equivalent combination of qualifications, training and experience in the delivery of education to young people, student equity or similar programs of work in higher education.
  • Outstanding leadership capabilities across multiple staff and complex work-streams that are institutional wide, establishing a shared vision, goals, priorities and outcomes, and experience managing internal and external partnerships.
  • Proven effective engagement with and understanding of student equity, and widening
  • participation research, policy, governance, evaluation and practice in the Australian secondary and tertiary education context.
  • Extensive general management skills, financial literacy and experience project managing multiple work-streams, leading, developing, implementing and evaluating large and/or complex student equity initiatives.
  • Capacity to manage and deliver competing and concurrent strategic priorities, work
  • according to strict deadlines and manage complexity to meet desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use
  • innovative thinking.
  • Demonstrated success in ensuring continual improvement of workflows, data-informed program development and evaluation and quality assurance.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and superior written communication skills with a track record of effectively engaging and influencing a wide range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
