As a Business Improvement Strategist, you will deliver solutions for business and cost efficiencies, process improvements, strategic analyses, data analysis, business and performance/metrics reporting, and implementation of multiple high-profile initiatives. Primary duties include:

  • Facilitate the development of business strategies and support implementation of strategic initiatives, particularly opportunities for cost efficiencies and business improvement.
  • Develop and execute operational reviews, program development, continuous improvement initiatives, strategies, policies and bylaw frameworks.
  • Coordinate business improvement initiatives and conduct multi-faceted business reviews and studies.
  • Support and/or lead the execution of various projects.
  • Gather and interpret data from various sources, identify opportunities and trends, and develop strategies to mitigate risks and realize efficiencies.
  • Provide research and support on decisions to the Lead.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to respond to business needs, solve problems, and develop options and alternatives, for example, Emergency and Business Continuity planning, Sustainability, Environment and Energy and Safety.
  • Track industry and competitive trends, conduct scenario/opportunity analysis, and identify business risks and innovative strategic solutions.
  • Facilitate sessions and interface with management, operational staff and organizational partners on strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Commerce, Business Management, Public Policy, Economics, Social Sciences or a related discipline and at least 5 years of experience in strategic planning, policy development and business analysis.
  • Applicants must have at least 1 year of combined experience with process modeling, project management, and a working knowledge of various analysis methodologies.
  • An advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) is required.
  • Previous experience in large corporate programs related to energy, climate, environment, and sustainability is required.
  • Previous experience in leadership and development of new programs, operational processes to drive performance is a requirement.
  • Previous experience with Business Continuity and Emergency Management, Emergency Response plans, will be considered an asset.
  • Experience presenting, facilitating and leading process improvements using methods of culture-appropriate team building, data gathering and analysis, problem solving, and state of the art presentation and platform skills is an asset.
  • Success in this position required the following competencies:
  • Knowledge and experience in benchmarking and performance metrics.
  • Knowledge and experience in process improvement methodologies.
  • A diverse range of experience in large organizations and businesses would be an asset.
  • Experience in developing strategies and writing content and reports for senior leadership.
  • The ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team setting.
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills and a high attention to detail.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communications skills, and a strong customer focus.
  • A demonstrated track record of meeting tight deadlines with tangible deliverables.
  • Excellent business and political acumen, and the ability to manage the implementation of business and strategic concepts.

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
