Our client is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Controller to join their Finance team. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this role manages core accounting functions across multiple legal entities, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, supports budgeting and forecasting, and partners with operations to drive financial performance. The ideal candidate will be highly analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, construction-focused environment with evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger maintenance
  • Lead month-end and year-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Manage intercompany transactions, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaids
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory filings (HST, WSIB, EHT, etc.) and support year-end audit prep
  • Maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and corporate filings
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and cost tracking
  • Collaborate with operations on project costing, WIP reporting, and margin analysis
  • Support ERP (Vista by Viewpoint) use and identify process improvement opportunities
  • Mentor junior accounting staff and support cross-functional initiatives

Qualifications:

  • CPA or CMA designation required; CA firm experience an asset
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in construction
  • Proficient in ASPE, project-based accounting, and multi-entity environments
  • Advanced Excel skills and ERP experience (preferably Vista)
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with audits and year-end reporting
