Assistant Controller
to support the financial and day-to-day accounting operations of our dealership. This role is ideal for a strong accounting professional who enjoys being involved in inventory, cash flow management, reporting, and process oversight. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller and dealership leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and efficient operational processes.

Key Responsibilities

Operational & Accounting Oversight

  • Support and oversee daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger activities
  • Maintain accurate and timely financial records in a high-volume dealership environment
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close activities

Inventory & Cost Control

  • Oversee vehicle, parts, and fixed asset inventory accounting
  • Ensure accurate inventory reconciliations and controls, including floor plan financing
  • Work closely with operations and service departments to monitor margins, costing, and variances

Cash Flow & Treasury

  • Actively manage daily cash flow, bank accounts, and dealership funding requirements
  • Monitor floor plan balances, paydowns, and interest
  • Support forecasting of cash requirements and working capital needs

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports
  • Provide operational and financial analysis to support decision-making
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

Controls, Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with dealership policies and accounting standards
  • Support year-end audit preparation and liaise with external auditors as required
  • Drive continuous improvement in reporting, processes, and systems

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum
    5+ years of progressive accounting experience
    , preferably within a
    dealership or automotive environment
  • Strong understanding of inventory accounting, cash flow management, and operational reporting
  • Experience working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with dealership management systems (e.g., CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds) is an asset
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
