Beamish Construction is looking for a hardworking, self-motivated employee with a proven record of safety and reliability to fill the position of Asphalt Preservation Supervisor in Sudbury, ON. This position will require a high level of motivation, professionalism, independence, and understanding of asphalt preservation and maintenance. This is a full-time permanent position available with competitive wages and a benefits package.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Receive, prioritize, plan and oversee daily asphalt and paving activities with responsibility for labourers and paving crews, providing real time guidance and direction.
  • Schedule labour and equipment for asphalt related work, such as: raking, smoothing and tamping related to the pavement, re-surfacing and repair.
  • Coordinate and confirm on-site measuring and truck coordination for asphalt supply.
  • Ensure work is done safely and established safety practices are strictly followed.
  • Conduct regular inspections of paving work and materials to identify and address issues.
  • Ensure accurate record keeping of daily work records, invoices, and timesheets.
  • Train and/or coach less experienced operators or labourers on the crew.
  • Must be able to work shifts including days, nights, and weekends when required.
  • Frequent travel to job sites with overnight stays as required throughout the construction season.
  • Display professionalism toward our company and customers.
  • Must maintain a clean and tidy work environment and equipment.
  • Work in accordance with all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in the paving and road construction industry is considered an asset.
  • Prior experience with Micro surfacing, Slurry seal, and/or Surface Treatment is considered an asset.
  • Valid G class driver's license is required.
  • Construction-related post-secondary education or equivalent experience is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a leadership role in the construction industry is considered an asset.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiar with all aspects of paving and road construction.
  • Understanding of surface treatment, slurry seal, and micro surfacing.
  • Familiar with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints and scopes of work.
  • Excellent attention to detail, as well as strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to identify performance gaps, coaching and mentoring the paving crew to encourage efficiency and teamwork.
  • Ability to adapt to last-minute changes as dictated by the needs of our customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
