Job Summary
The Industrial Maintenance Millwright ensures the safe, reliable, and effective maintenance of mechanical equipment, controls, and power systems across water distribution facilities. This role involves performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques, while strictly adhering to health, safety, and environmental regulations. Participate and lead tactical work improvements and problem prevention efforts.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prioritize safety in all aspects of work by identifying, assessing, and controlling hazards to maintain a safe work environment. Follow all Regional safety policies, procedures, and legislative requirements including but not limited to confined space entry, lockout/tagout, work at heights and PPE use.
- Conduct pre-job and workplace hazard assessments, ensuring all safety protocols are in place before commencing work, including work preparation and equipment specific hazards encountered before and during work.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment including pumps, motors, valves, compressors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act, CSA standards, and water, wastewater plant regulations.
- Utilize SAP, excel and other systems daily to manage work orders, log equipment data, track materials, and generate accurate and complete maintenance records.
- Reference and interpret technical documentation such as Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECA), manufacturer manuals, blueprints, and regional design specifications to guide maintenance and repair activities.
- Communicate and document changes to equipment design, installation, or performance, ensuring updates are shared with relevant stakeholders and captured in asset management systems.
- Collaborate with contractors, OEMs, and vendors to resolve equipment issues, support commissioning, and ensure installations meet safety and performance expectations.
- Support capital projects by participating in design reviews, commissioning, warranty acceptance, and maintenance readiness planning.
- Participate in training and upskilling programs, such as the Industrial Maintenance Technician (IMT) designation, to expand competencies including work on gas systems and digester equipment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by developing and updating preventative maintenance procedures, validating equipment data, and recommending enhancements to equipment and processes.
- Respond to emergencies and high-priority equipment failures, applying troubleshooting expertise to restore operations efficiently and safely.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including shop organization, tool maintenance, and support for special projects and optimization initiatives.
Skills & Qualifications
- Valid Certificate of Apprenticeship and Certificate of Qualification (433A) as an Industrial Mechanic Millwright.
- 3–5 years of experience as a qualified Millwright, preferably in water distribution stations.
- Advanced mechanical knowledge of industrial systems including pumps, motors, valves, gearboxes, and mechanical control systems.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, including the use of precision tools (e.g., laser alignment, micrometers) and predictive maintenance techniques (e.g., vibration, oil analysis, thermography and ultrasound).
- Proficiency in SAP PM and MM, SCADA systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to interpret technical drawings, write detailed reports, workorder technical feedback and collaborate across teams.
- Thorough understanding of safety legislation, including WHMIS, confined space entry, working at heights, and hazardous materials handling.
- Experience with fabrication and machining tools, including welders, lathes, milling machines, and hydraulic presses.
- Commitment to continuous learning, including participation in training programs and staying current with industry standards and technologies.
- Preferred licenses and certificates : Maintenance Lubrication Technician (MLT) level 1 or 2 , Gas license G1 or G2 , Vibration certification level 1 or 2, Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) Work Management Certificate

- Flexibility to work outside of core business hours including evenings, weekends and holidays is required.
- The successful incumbent will be required to serve on standby and respond to after hour callouts, as specified by Public Works Operations Practices.
- The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position, in all weather and elevations, including lifting, bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing ladders, working from scaffolding and heights.

- Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
- The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver's license and a driver's abstract, by their first day of employment.
