We are on a journey of continuous growth – now looking for our next star – a passionate Product Designer, Mechanical. This position reports to the Chief Mechanical Engineer and will work in Cedar, BC.
About the position
As Product Designer, Mechanical of the Cedar, BC team, you will be involved in product development including design, verification, validation, launch and support of products and components used in boat control and power systems. Develop and evaluate mechanical and mechatronic products to meet cost and functional targets. The position will also support the launch of the Dometic mobile power solutions (MPS) advanced lithium house battery through to stable production in 2026.
Your Main Responsibilities
General
- Prepare design documentation for new products and components such as drawings, engineering specifications and test reports.
- Design products and components utilizing prescribed tools such as QFD, CAD, DFMA, DFMEA's in accordance with ISO9001 requirements and procedures.
- Participate in the full development cycle, from requirements analysis, design, development, implementation, validation, documentation and on-going support.
- Component design including, concept generation, 3D modeling, material selection, stress analysis, etc.
- Hold design reviews and conduct validation tests (salt spray, lifecycle, tolerance validation).
- Manage Bill of Materials for production assemblies.
- Research and develop systems solutions for identified market opportunities.
- Participate in "make versus buy" decisions for components and/or assemblies.
- Analyze operational efficiency for components and/or assemblies to determine if more efficient design or manufacturing methods can be implemented.
- Develop project plans, coordinate activities and report on project status.
- Work in multi-function/new product development teams, including program and product management, manufacturing engineering, supply chain management and production.
- Interact with customers and suppliers and represent Dometic Marine.
- Assist in applications support and troubleshooting as required.
- Complete additional job duties and assignments up to 15% of the time.
As Well As:
- Explore and understand the battery programs in MPS NA and in MPS EMEA.
- Understand MPS NA battery performance, reliability, robustness and potential issues and improvements from the field.
- Draft detailed roadmap for Marine MPS short and long term focusing on quality, robustness, design control / continuous improvement, and marine market protection. Synthesize roadmap into short term schedule to coordinate testing and development activities across the team.
- Implement incremental improvements for MPS NA battery for first sales.
- Perform key analysis (DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, PPAP) on MPS NA battery.
- Coordinate design verification to ensure MPS NA battery is suitable and robust for marine applications.
- Lead OEM application projects to deploy batteries.
- Communicate and manage Stage 2 status and timeline of battery programs internally and externally.
- Hold design reviews to evaluate product design, specifications, verifications, validations, and documentation in accordance with Dometic standards.
- Plan next phase of battery assembly.

Skills & Requirements
The ideal candidate for this role will bring demonstrated success in a manufacturing environment. Additionally, they will have acquired the following qualifications and experience:
- University or Institute qualifications in Mechanical, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering.

Salary Range: $92k - $95k CAD
