Inn on Long Lake – Nanaimo, BC

Are you a people-person who loves creating memorable guest experiences? Do you want to work in a lakeside setting where every day feels a little like a getaway? Inn on Long Lake is looking for a Temporary Maintenance Attendant to join our team.

About Us

Inn on Long Lake is a 64-room independent hotel located right on the water in Nanaimo. We're proud to be a locally owned business that blends the charm of Vancouver Island living with professional hospitality. Our guests range from families and leisure travelers to corporate and government guests, and even a few four-legged friends (we're proudly pet-friendly).

What You'll Do

As a Maintenance Attendant at Inn on Long Lake, you play a key role in keeping our lakeside hotel running smoothly—inside and out. You take pride in problem-solving, repairs, and preventative care, ensuring our property remains safe, comfortable, and welcoming for guests and staff alike. From quick fixes to larger projects, your work directly contributes to a positive and memorable guest experience.

  • Perform routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance in guest rooms, public spaces, administrative areas, café, and spa.
  • Respond to guest requests and operational needs, including minor electrical issues, plumbing (sinks and toilets), light bulb replacements, and door/lock access.
  • Complete general maintenance tasks such as painting, drywall repair, and touch-ups.
  • Assist with minor plumbing, electrical, heating, and cooling system repairs as required.
  • Carry out manual repairs to doors, locks, windows, fixtures, and furnishings.
  • Safely operate tools and equipment including power tools, mowers, and blowers.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Ensure outdoor areas—including walkways, docks, parking areas, garbage and recycling stations, and dog relief areas—are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
  • Maintain the hotel hot tub, including water testing and chemical balancing, in compliance with VIHA regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with our IT support team to ensure hotel systems and equipment are functioning properly.
  • Assist with upkeep of gardens, landscaping, and building exteriors.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and ensure timely completion of work orders.
  • Follow and support WorkSafeBC (WCB) standards, hotel safety procedures, and emergency protocols at all times.

What We're Looking For

  • Basic working knowledge of building maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and IT equipment.
  • Understanding of proper chemical handling and disposal; familiarity with health and safety regulations, hand and power tools, and utility systems.
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve building-related issues.
  • Positive attitude with strong attention to detail and clear communication skills.
  • Previous maintenance experience in a hospitality or similar environment is considered an asset.
  • Flexibility to work daytime shifts and weekends as required.
  • Pool Operator Level 1 certification is an asset (or willingness to obtain).

Why Join Us?

  • Work in a beautiful lakeside environment that guests (and staff) love.
  • Be part of a supportive, inclusive, and fun team.
  • Staff perks, recognition programs, and occasional social events.
  • Opportunities for growth in hospitality and operations.
  • Completion bonus.
