About UsWestern Engineering Outreach is an organization run by Western Engineering which strives to increase the awareness of and cultivate interest in engineering and technology in young peoples through interactive and innovative programs in London, Ontario and the surrounding communities. Western Engineering Outreach offers exciting programs for elementary and high school students, as well as partnering with community organizations to reach as many aspiring minds as possible. These programs aim to inspire and empower students with engineering skills.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:
The Outreach Instructor supports the community programs of Western Engineering Outreach to provide outreach and engagement to youth in the London & Middlesex area as well as surrounding communities. Western Engineering Outreach provides a pathway for youth to experience Western Engineering firsthand and start their journey to potentially becoming future students at Western University.
Additionally through these outreach programs Western Engineering is able to support programs for underrepresented youth (Indigenous students and students of colour, female, low socio-economic status) who otherwise would not have access.
Key responsibilities for this position will include:
- Delivering programming to youth in grades SK-12
- Testing programming prior to delivery
- Prepping materials/kits for programming
- Developing and/or updating workshops or activities
- Delivering programming on-campus and at different locations, including in surrounding rural and Indigenous communities, on weekdays, evenings and on weekends
Qualifications
Education:
- Minimum completion of Grade 11
- Enrolled in an Undergraduate program preferred
Experience:
- Experience or demonstrated interest working with children/youth
- Demonstrated interest in science and engineering
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Ability to follow processes with high attention to detail
- Presentation skills to deliver engaging and informative presentations that clearly explain information to audiences
- Using appropriate communication channels
- Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
- Ability to summarize information and disseminate to others effectively in a timely manner
- Ability to creatively adapt traditional methods, concepts, models or systems to new applications
- Organizational and multi-tasking skills to prioritize and consistently produce high-quality work
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Proficient computer skills Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University's events and activities, including evenings and weekends
- Experience and comfort working with technology, including micro:bits, dash robots and/or 3D printers, is an asset
- G license and access to a car is considered an asset
