The unit is responsible for providing high quality academic advising and career services, programs and supports to enrich the quality of the undergraduate student experience in the Faculty. We strive for excellence in delivering the best student experience through a student-centric, supportive, caring, accessible and knowledgeable student services environment, helping students design, modify and achieve their academic and career goals, from admission through to graduation. **Responsibilities**: The Media & Communication Studies (MACS) Student Learning Coaches will collaborate with one another, the Learning Development and Success team, and FIMS Undergraduate Student Services to design and develop engaging interactive group study activities that encourage groups of students to connect with each other, practice course content and deepen their learning with the help of relevant learning strategies and skills. As a MACS Student Learning Coach (SLC), you will prepare and facilitate one 60-minute sessions per week, held in addition to scheduled lectures and tutorial for students registered in MIT 1020E. **Responsibilities**: - Attend mandatory training and ongoing professional development meetings. - Stay up to date on course material and students’ challenges and concerns. - Work with team members, supervisors, and instructors to design or modify weekly study sessions based on students’ learning needs. - Hold 1 one-hour sessions per week in teams of three. - Promote and maintain a welcoming and safe atmosphere throughout all sessions. - Maintain ongoing contact with supervisors and team members and respond to inquiries in a timely manner. - Discuss with supervisor any questions, difficulties, or problems. - Provide activities for students on topics related to academic success at university, such as reducing procrastination and preparing for tests and exams. **Education**: Registered Western undergraduate student in the Faculty of Information and Media Studies. **Experience**: - Media and Communication Studies (MACS) Undergraduate students with a strong interest in learning skills who have taken MIT 1020E and MIT 1025F/G. - Minimum 80% cumulative average, with a minimum of 80% in MIT 1020E. - Strong communication (attending, listening, speaking) and interpersonal and presentation skills. - The ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Strong time management and organizational skills Positive attitude and commitment to helping Western students. - Due to the intensive training involved, a three-term commitment is preferred. **Preferred Experience**: - Community or campus involvement (e.g., leadership/volunteer roles) Awareness of campus resources and services **Why Western?**: Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance, experience, and qualifications.
