We're actively seeking new talent to join our mission of transforming B.C.'s energy landscape. As one of BC's Top Employers with a diverse team of over 2,700 employees, we are committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong, and grow. Position OverviewAre you a seasoned electrical engineer passionate about system reliability and regulatory compliance? In this leadership role, you'll provide technical oversight and guidance to System Operations, ensuring safety, reliability, and alignment with BC Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS). You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to uphold system integrity and support critical operations that power communities across the province.

This is more than a job—it's a chance to lead with purpose and make a lasting impact on the safety and reliability of BC's energy systems. If you're ready to bring your expertise to a collaborative, forward-thinking team, we'd love to hear from you.
In year 1, you will:- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and BC MRS requirements related to System Operations and Training.
- Analyze and develop technical training to meet departmental training requirements meeting reliability standards and procedures.
- Become familiar with operational planning analyses for system outages including providing and coordinating support to/from System Operations, Project Management, Engineering, and External Entities for outage scheduling.
- Build expertise in the standards, processes, and procedures of FortisBC and act as a subject matter expert for external auditors while also demonstrating an understanding of audit processes and concepts.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements in existing processes, procedures, operational, and training materials to reflect changes in standards, policies, processes, structure, and principles.
- Schedule and coordinate the required training instruction, documentation, and tracking to maintain the required continuing education hours for North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Certification for Operating Personnel.
- Provide technical leadership on operational issues, outage coordination and scheduling, project scope development, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Real Time Contingency Analysis (RTCA), data historian, reliability, and protection schemes.
- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university, plus 8 to 12 years of recent and relevant electrical utility experience in compliance, system operations, planning, protection, generation, transmission, or distribution engineering.
- Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC). A valid NERC Operator and/or Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) certificate is considered an asset.
