Join us, and together, let's shape a brighter future for B.C. Position Overview Are you a seasoned electrical engineer passionate about system reliability and regulatory compliance? In this leadership role, you’ll provide technical oversight and guidance to System Operations, ensuring safety, reliability, and alignment with BC Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS). You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to uphold system integrity and support critical operations that power communities across the province. We’re looking for someone with deep expertise in BC MRS, including cyber and/or physical security, and a strong understanding of electrical power systems—especially in modelling and forecasting. Experience with system safety protocols, lockout procedures, and safe work practices is essential. You’ll thrive in this role if you bring exceptional organizational skills, technical writing and presentation abilities, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. In year 1, you will: Ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and BC MRS requirements related to System Operations and Training. Analyze and develop technical training to meet departmental training requirements meeting reliability standards and procedures. Become familiar with operational planning analyses for system outages including providing and coordinating support to/from System Operations, Project Management, Engineering, and External Entities for outage scheduling. In year 2, you will: Build expertise in the standards, processes, and procedures of FortisBC and act as a subject matter expert for external auditors while also demonstrating an understanding of audit processes and concepts. Identify and implement continuous improvements in existing processes, procedures, operational, and training materials to reflect changes in standards, policies, processes, structure, and principles. Schedule and coordinate the required training instruction, documentation, and tracking to maintain the required continuing education hours for North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Certification for Operating Personnel. Provide technical leadership on operational issues, outage coordination and scheduling, project scope development, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Real Time Contingency Analysis (RTCA), data historian, reliability, and protection schemes. What it takes: A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university, plus 8 to 12 years of recent and relevant electrical utility experience in compliance, system operations, planning, protection, generation, transmission, or distribution engineering. Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
