Role: Senior Backend Engineer (AI/LLM Integration)

Experience Level: 7+ years experience

Work Location: Remote Canada 

Role Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join a high-priority project focused on building and scaling production-grade AI services. The ideal candidate is a seasoned software engineer who has successfully moved beyond experimentation into deploying Large Language Model (LLM) workflows within enterprise environments.

You will be responsible for building the "plumbing" and orchestration layers that allow AI models to function reliably at scale, ensuring high availability within a Kubernetes ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

• AI Orchestration: Design and implement complex, multi-step LLM workflows and "chains" to automate business logic.

• Service Development: Build and maintain high-performance backend services using either Java or Python.

• Production Deployment: Containerize and deploy services to Kubernetes (AKS), ensuring they are resilient and scalable.

• Integration: Connect backend services with various AI providers (OpenAI, Azure AI, Anthropic, etc.) and Vector Databases.

• Observability: Implement monitoring and logging specifically for AI workloads to track model performance, latency, and "hallucination" rates.

Basic Qualifications:

• Core Languages: 7+ years of professional experience in Java (Spring Boot) or Python (FastAPI/Flask/Django).

• AI/LLM Experience: Proven experience integrating LLMs into production environments.

• Orchestration Frameworks: Hands-on experience with LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or similar frameworks for managing multi-step AI prompts and state.

• Cloud & DevOps: Strong experience with Kubernetes (Azure Kubernetes Service / AKS preferred). Comfortable with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native architecture.

• Data Systems: Familiarity with Vector Databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate, Milvus) and traditional SQL/NoSQL databases.

Other Qualifications (OQs):

• Experience with LLM Observability tools (e.g., LangSmith, Arize Phoenix, Weights & Biases).

• Knowledge of RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) patterns and optimization.

• Understanding of prompt engineering best practices and model evaluation techniques.
