Position Overview
The Controller at ServiceMaster Restore of Toronto West, Brampton, and Orangeville is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong fiscal controls to support the company's continued growth. This role plays a key part in managing accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, and operational support initiatives to ensure the efficient and profitable delivery of restoration services.
The Controller works closely with ownership and senior leadership to uphold ServiceMaster's values of integrity, reliability, and excellence while building and improving scalable financial systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting functions including AR/AP, general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliation, and payroll coordination.
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and internal reporting for leadership review.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes and support external auditors/accountants.
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
- Manage cash flow, forecasting, and budget monitoring to support operational decision-making.
- Track job costing, project profitability, and operational budgets with accuracy and timeliness.
- Ensure compliance with CRA, provincial regulations, and ServiceMaster corporate requirements.
- Review and approve vendor invoices, subcontractor payments, and expense reports.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation for all projects.
- Support leadership with financial analysis, KPI tracking, and performance dashboards.
- Assist in optimizing business systems, accounting software, and digital workflows.
- Work collaboratively with project management and operations teams to ensure accurate field-to-office documentation (receipts, timesheets, subcontractor invoices, job files, etc.).
- Provide timely status updates and financial insights to ownership and senior management.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of accounting/financial management experience; Controller or Senior Accountant experience preferred.
- CPA designation or working towards CPA is strongly preferred.
- Experience in construction, restoration, or related field-service industry is highly valued.
- Strong knowledge of job costing and revenue recognition in service or project-based environments.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks or similar), MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong understanding of CRA compliance, payroll principles, and corporate reporting.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet strict reporting deadlines.
- Proven analytical, problem-solving, and process-improvement abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- High degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical judgment.
- Valid G driver's license with a clean driving record.
