Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Swish Solar Full time

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end product development
  • Own the product roadmap for current and next-gen film (requirements, milestones, risks, trade-offs).
  • Translate customer/pilot needs into PRDs, material specs, acceptance criteria, and test plans.
  • Coordinate execution across R&D, engineering, and manufacturing.
  • Materials + process development (hands-on + leadership)
  • Lead development/optimization of transparent conductive electrodes on flexible substrates.
  • Develop and test conductive inks and protective coatings/encapsulation (adhesion, abrasion, UV, moisture, soiling).
  • Plan and run experiments (DOE), analyze results, and drive fast iteration.
  • Manufacturing, vendors, scale-up
  • Identify and qualify manufacturing routes (prototype → pilot → scalable), including roll-to-roll options.
  • Own vendor/CM relationships: outreach, RFQs, sample evaluation, pilot runs, and technical alignment.
  • Decide what to build in-house vs outsource; improve manufacturability and cost over time.
  • Quality + operations
  • Build lightweight QA/QC for inks/coatings (incoming checks, in-process controls, final acceptance tests).
  • Oversee materials inventory (raw materials, samples, WIP, finished product) and traceability.
  • Maintain core documentation: SOPs, process specs, test methods, change log.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Mechanical, ECE, or related.
  • Proven experience (industry or deep startup experience) owning productization of materials/process-heavy technology.
  • Strong familiarity with printed electronics and coatings, such as:
  • conductive inks, transparent conductors, polymer films
  • coating/encapsulation layers, protective films, adhesion/durability challenges
  • Experience with at least one: screen printing, roll-to-roll concepts, ink formulation, coating deposition (spray/spin/slot-die), lamination/encapsulation.
  • Comfortable leading ambiguity: can define plans, run experiments, interpret results, and make decisions with imperfect data.
  • Strong vendor + project coordination skills (quotes, samples, timelines, tradeoffs).

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Roll-to-roll coating/printing scale-up experience.
  • Solar/PV module packaging or outdoor reliability testing.
  • QA/QC experience specific to inks/coatings and process control.
  • Startup/product development experience shipping hardware.
