Finishing Systems Engineering Assistant (8 Month term)

The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:

  • Support machine moves, setup, and removal by working with contractors, maintenance, and other teams.
  • Take part in projects that improve safety, environmental sustainability, equipment, and processes.
  • Assist with planning and tracking small improvement projects.
  • Help review and document manufacturing processes.
  • Contribute to lean manufacturing efforts (like 5S, waste reduction, and time studies).
  • Support new equipment selection, setup, and commissioning.
  • Create or update job instructions, training materials, and flow schematics.
  • Assist with shop floor layout changes using 2D CAD tools.
  • Occasionally help with machinery troubleshooting and testing.
  • Occasionally help with optimizing chemical process parameters.
  • Share updates on project progress and challenges.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Enrolled in a Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or Biosystems Engineering/Technology program.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft 365 applications/software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • Ability to read and create technical drawings
  • Interest in manufacturing, automation, or process improvement.
  • Familiarity with anodizing, metal surface treatment, or other finishing processes (liquid painting, powder coating, etc.) considered an asset
  • Design experience considered an asset
