Position Summary
The Systems Engineer is responsible for the successful delivery of cloud-based solutions and infrastructure projects, with a key focus on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 (Office 365) ecosystems. This role is ideal for a highly technical professional with strong project execution skills and the ability to handle escalated support requests. The position requires experience in cloud migrations, virtualization, systems administration, and backup technologies. In addition to technical delivery, the role includes time tracking, collaboration with project managers, and participation in planning and reporting activities.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure & Migrations:
- Lead migrations from on-premises systems to Microsoft Cloud services including but not limited to SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and Microsoft Teams.
- Deploy and configure Azure virtual environments based on project requirements.
- Manage tenant-to-tenant migrations as well as cloud platform transitions (e.g., AWS/GCP to Azure).
- Configure and maintain hybrid environments using Entra Connect for seamless identity integration.
Project Responsibilities
- Participate in project discovery and planning sessions to gather technical requirements and define scope.
- Assist in drafting project plans, Statements of Work (SoWs), and technical documentation to support project delivery.
- Track time accurately in the organization's system for billing and compliance purposes.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure schedules, milestones, and budgets are met.
- Notify project stakeholders of any technical roadblocks or schedule changes and assist in risk mitigation planning.
- Maintain and deliver complete technical documentation and conduct handoffs and knowledge transfer sessions as needed.
Support & Escalation
- Act as a Tier 3 escalation point for technical support teams, resolving complex or high-impact issues.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians and service desk team members when needed.
- Monitor system performance and proactively address potential issues using available tools.
Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery
- Use Veeam Backup & Replication for projects and Disaster Recovery (DR).
- Conduct regular DR backup testing and ensure proper data retention strategies are followed.
- Support recovery operations during business continuity or incident response scenarios.
Virtualization & Server Management
- Support and manage VMware environments including ESXi/Hyper-V hosts and vCenter.
Administer core Windows Server components such as:
Active Directory (AD)
- DNS
- DHCP
- Group Policy (GPO)
Automation & Scripting
- Develop PowerShell scripts for automation of routine administrative tasks.
- Participate in standardization of configurations and repeatable deployment procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
- 4+ years of experience in a systems engineering or similar technical role.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
- Experience with cloud migrations, especially from on-prem to Microsoft Cloud.
- Familiarity with Veeam Backup & Replication, VMware, and the Windows Server stack.
- Scripting knowledge using PowerShell or similar tools.
- Knowledge of networking concepts and protocols is a strong asset.
- Project-based mindset with the ability to manage time, documentation, and collaboration effectively.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Certifications (not Mandatory But Considered An Asset)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate
- VMware VCP or similar
- Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE)
