Are you a skilled communicator with media relations expertise, including in-depth knowledge of the national media landscape?

We're looking for an experienced consultant who knows all about reputation management and media engagement – and is excited to advocate for FCC and the agriculture and food industry.

As a Senior Media Relations Consultant, you'll expertly turn input from subject matter experts into key messages, crafting clear external materials for a diverse group of leaders and frontline staff across the company, helping tell the story of FCC in a way that engages, informs and inspires.

This role is a great fit for a high-performing external communications professional with experience in public relations and leading and managing communications projects. Proven experience in planning and implementing media strategies and tactics is essential, as are expert skills in managing emerging issues. A background in journalism would be considered an asset.

What you'll do

  • Build relationships with journalists and serve as a spokesperson to respond to media inquiries
  • Prepare spokespeople, including senior executives, for media interviews
  • Prepare key messages, briefing notes, communications plans and more to support corporate initiatives
  • Provide expert consultation and support for strategies and tactics to engage persuasively with media, industry stakeholders and customers
  • Partner with colleagues within the Brand and Communications team to explore ways to strengthen FCC's reputation
  • Create and implement communication campaigns
  • Develop partnerships throughout the organization
  • Explore earned-media communication opportunities that complement our paid and social media activities
  • Use media scanning and networking to provide proactive insight on issues of the day
  • Measure and evaluate our media relations program

What we're looking for

  • An expert communicator and relationship-builder with strong problem-solving skills
  • A collaborative team member committed to helping others succeed
  • A strategic thinker with professional-calibre writing and editing abilities
  • An energetic multi-tasker with an in-depth understanding of communication principles and best practices

What you'll need

  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, English or communication and at least six years of experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Senior-level communication consulting experience with a focus on influencing others, building relationships and aligning diverse opinions
  • Experience in journalism is an asset
  • General knowledge of Canadian agriculture or finance is an asset
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset
