Job Description

We are seeking a HIGH ENERGY individual who is passionate, out-going and promotes FUN. This is a full time, permanent position located in the community of Fort McKay, AB to start immediately.

Overview:

The role of the Youth Recreation & Leisure Programmer is to ensure that age appropriate recreational & leisure programming activities and opportunities are planned, organized, supervised, implemented, facilitated and evaluated for the children and youth served by the Association.

The Youth Recreation & Leisure Programmer will ensure that all programs and services provided maintain the mission of the Association.

Our programs promote skill building, self-reliance and personal development, cultural education and activities, recreation, environmental and community awareness.

The Fort McKay Wellness Center serves all youth (ages 5-17) who reflect the rich diversity of our community."

Duties:

Recreation & Leisure Programmers plan, organize and facilitate recreation & leisure programs based on the current needs of the children and youth being served. They are involved in many aspects including:

* Leadership training and development

* Role modelling and mentoring

* Sporting, cultural, leisure and physical fitness activities and programs and social programs

In general, Recreation & Leisure Programmers:

* Recommend overall recreation strategies, plans and policies

* Implement programs based on the approved strategies, plans and policies

* Act as a liaison for the children and youth within the association

* Organize, coordinate and implement recreation & leisure programs, social programs, cultural and educational events

* Facilitate the delivery of programs and services

* Initiate and promote volunteerism amongst all children and youth accessing

programs and services

* Oversee fundraising activities implemented by the children and youth within the Association

* Advertise and promote all programs and services offered by the Association

* Train, mentor and supervise children, youth, students and co-workers

Facility & Program Environment:

The Youth Recreation & Leisure Programmer will plan, organize, implement and facilitate programs and activities that support the development and growth of all participants. All programming will promote "SAFETY FIRST" and the Center's "CODE OF CONDUCT ".

And in addition, all programming activities must promote laughter and fun

Working Conditions:

The Youth Recreation & Leisure Programmer is required to:

  • Work afternoon, evenings, some day shifts and some weekends.

  • Commute to and from the community (if applicable)

  • Be Flexible

  • Setting up recreational activities sometimes requires lifting up to 25 kilograms

  • Provide programs and activities in a variety of locations within the community and the region.

  • Delivery of programs and activities are offered in a variety of weather patterns. Appropriate dress is required for all weather conditions.

  • Deliver programs in a variety of settings including in-person and virtually, if required.

Qualifications:

The Youth Recreation & Leisure Programmer will possess:

  • A Diploma, Degree or Certificate in a related discipline such as Recreation, Physical Education or Child and Youth Worker ( Early Childhood Education, Social Work ) or a combination of education and experience

  • Related experience working with children and youth

  • Standard First Aid, CPR & AED Certification

  • Child Intervention Check and Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check.

  • Reliable transportation to and from work

  • Knowledge of Indigenous community values and dynamics

  • Ability to work under pressure in stressful situations

  • Ability to manage, supervise and ensure the safety of large groups of children and youth.
